I tried to make pizza dough today because I couldn't find any of that premade stuff at superstore. I made the dough and left it in a mixing bowl and took a nap. I totally forgot about it and the dough looked like a giant balloon. I should have taken a picture of it haha. Needless to say, I ordered pizza hut

Well yes, your bread has overproofed, that means the yeast has risen very high, to the poiint that if you tried to put that bread in the oven and bake it, it would collapse on itself, it could never hold that balloon shape. Now yeast is a living organism and can take a lot of abuse, except for too much heat, that will kill it. That is why when you put your bread in the oven, the bread rises only so much higher, then it stays that shape and just bakes until done.
Now, you did not have to throw that pizza dough away. You could have just punched it down and let it rise again. Many breads call for that type of process anyhow, and it is called a double rising.
