Yes it comes with a transfer cable in the box. I just did this a week ago because my disc drive started getting really loud so I wanted to install my games on it.
On another note, the hard drive is such a rip off at over $150 and the reason I waited so long to upgrade. I installed a 500gb drive on my ps3 for less than that price.

Sounds nice, but the simple fact is that capitalism rewards shoddy workmanship - the last thing anyone wants to sell is something that lasts a lifetime.
M$ wanted their consoles to fail after four years so people would buy new ones. They misjudged how badly their product was and now they're paying through the nose for it.

Word. Proprietary garbage that externalizes the cost of the system onto the consumer.
Like batteries in the controllers or the wireless network adapter.
So the system is 200 bucks, but all the extra costs are going to be an extra 200. Oh, and it has a 30 percent chance of failing outright.
what an insane rip, though, shows what a pricing point and timing can do.

Then surely competing companies could build a better and cheaper system and they would dominate the market.
You should tell Sega how much easy profitability there is in console sales!

Well I got the red ring again yesterday, its the second time I've got it and first time in months. But once again, like last time, after quickly turning it off and turning it back on again, it went away. I dont get it(though I'm happy about that). I'm just waiting for the time when it finally turns red and sticks.
I still can't believe how flawed these systems are. I was always a PS guy(had 1 and 2) but thought I'd go XBox this time around, just to try something new. I think there's no question that I'm going back to PS once the next generation of systems comes out. Had I known what the "Red Ring of Death" was when I bought the 360 I never would've got it in the first place.

I had the Red Ring and it wasn't a smooth process to get it back. It took about 2 months for me to get it and I had to keep calling them again and again to get any info on it. MS really screwed up with the xbox 360, there's no way consumers should be experiencing this kind of failure rate with the product.

Their custumer support is horrible, they locked my gamertag a year ago because they manually detected that I had fake credit card info, which means that my "gamertag info" didn't match up with my dad's credit card info. SO then I wasn't allowed to buy MS points (there is no reason for these stupid points) for RB songs, or renew my XBL after it ran out. I had to call their toll free number at least 5 times, and everytime they'd have to ask me all my info until I could explain my situation, and then they'd put me on hold and i'd lose my conenction. At the end I just got pissed off and told some idiot that I'm not giving my info and I want to speak to their supervisor, which I did, who was an even bigger tard. Eventually they unlocked my gamertag, I activated my month of XBL that a friend gave me, and everything was great. Then a month later, I try to actvate my year of XBL, and it didn't work, apparently because I didn't answer the phone when they were trying to tell me they unlocked the account. I went online to see if it would work like it had before, and there was some new option to remove payment opiton, I removed the credit card, and it worked.
point is microsoft sucks so much, and too bad because the 360 is great (apart from the yearly-unavoidable-breakage).

I heard the newer Jasper models are better now. But man, how is the Xbox so bad? That's a little ridiculous. Just for that, they should make all games FREE... heheh

Microsoft keeps claiming that every new version gets better, yet they have failed to solve the problem. Their Elite model was touted to have all the bugs fixed, and the failure rate remains about the same.

Have had mine for over 2 yrs now, not a sniff of a problem. I have had one of those intercoolers on the back from pretty much day 1. I've been told they don't make a bit of difference but keep it on there anyways. How increased airflow through the system doesn't make any difference is beyond me.

Not to derail the thread, but I think Sony set the price point too high for the PS3s launch, which was a result of the Blu ray drives. But it did help to kill HDDVD so maybe it was worth it. And while I agree 360 has the market share in North America what about Japan?

How does every seem to think Sony is getting killed? In terms of Launch to now, they have sold more systems then the 360 did in the same time frame. If they drop the price, they will simply add to their market shares. 10 year plan is definitely in effect.

I'm waiting for my 3rd 360 right now, as I shipped my 2nd one out for the RROD (as I did with the 1st). The ol' PS2 is playing substitute right now, but I have a feeling that once NHL and FIFA 10 come out, I might just bite the bullet and buy the PS3 early (no choice ultimately, as GT5 will neccesitate it). It's a farce, and I may not buy another Microsoft console again....I would miss the controller though, it truly is the best.

Why does everyone seem to think there isn't room for both?
Fanboi'ism.
That said, my Xbox finally had it's RRoD. @#$*ucker, I was doing so well.

lol there is no 10year plan for a console, if the competition comes out with a new console lets say 2010 or 2011, others will follow immediately. With the project Natal coming out Dec or Early Jan, Sony should have something up there sleeves by that time.

Does anybody know if this site ( CLICK HERE) will repair the 2 ring problem? I read through some of them and it mentions the "overheating" problem but doesn't mention the 2 ring problem specifically.
I have had my xbox for a year and a half, so what I seem to be hearing from people is that Microsoft won't cover this problem.

Sounds like you might have the same problem I had which turned out to be a dirty DVD-drive. I ended up opening mine up and cleaning the drive out and haven't had a problem since. Mine is out of warrently though so it was either pay Microsoft $100 to fix it or try and fix it on my own.
