For original Deep Dish, you have to go to source which is Chicago. Giordiano's, Gino's and Uno are all top notch and worth while. I am lucky to be in Chicago a few times a year on business and make sure I make a stop and try to time out a Flames game if I can as well. The Chicago Deep Dish pizza places here in Calgary aren't too bad either but as you said you have to call the right location. From memory the 531-XXXX is the one to check out. I have never been a fan of NY style pizza but maybe haven't found the right places on past visits.
Agreed, Pulcinella had some great atmosphere, and from that standpoint it's definitely a great place.

I haven't had the chance to go to Chicago yet (apart from the airport, which I'm going to assume does not offer the same quality of pizza from a kiosk!), but I'm sure their deep dish is immaculate.

If you're ever in NY, the best pizza (hands down!) is Grimaldi's. It's in Brooklyn, right under the Brooklyn Bridge. If you find a better thin-crust pizza anywhere in the world, then you must've landed on a really special place.

I've tried Tom's House of Pizza before in Calgary, and thought it was quite delicious. It seemed to be in this not-quite-thin-but-not-deep-dish-either zone, which sometimes hits the spot. It's a little on the pricey side though I think.

Best. Pizza. Ever.
100% agree, I believe they won Canada's best pizza 2008.

Also for some reason I can't thank anyone in this thread.

Two Guys Pizza is incredible. I frequently dined there for Pizza and Calzones, when i lived in the LA.

Right now my favorite is Gondola Pizza in Acadia. Their thin crust, pepperoni bacon and mushroom is frikkin great.

I second this, the g/f and I made it a must-do when we were in NYC over the summer - we walked across the bridge, and waited for 1.5 hrs for a pie there - absolutely DELICIOUS... best pizza I have ever had, just amazing.

Anyone who likes pizza and is visiting NYC should make plans to give this place a try.

Edit: Here's a pic of the pizza:
