It's completely unreasonable for the girl to set the entire agenda for the entire day of an anniversary of two people's first date. It's not like it's her birthday and she's the only one being celebrated here. Is this kind of thing supposed to be symbolic of the relationship (Ie Complete submission to her demands)?
Anyway I'm sure it wasn't the fact that you want to watch football from 10 AM to 1PM that bothered her. It's probably because, by pronouncing that the days plans better not interfere with your Eagles game, you unintentionally told her in her irrational girl language interpretation that you place football ahead of her. Remember that with women it's never actual actions, or actual things that are said, it's all about how actions were performed, and how things were said. Remember that and you can get away with anything. The proper protocol for this would be to not mention the game at all, but ensure that plans are made later in the day. Considering the time of the game I find it hard to believe that she would even have coincidentally planned anything during that time.

She just sounds a tad self centered to me. Could lead to similar problems like this down the road.

Agreed! A good friend of mine was once married to a gal that sounds very similar to the g/f rube is dating. Everything had to be done her way. It didn't take long before he wised up and got a divorce.

That's not the point. This gal is self centered and doesn't seem to care that rube spends sundays watching football. I'd be showing her the door if that was my g/f.

If you want to keep things going with the girl, take her out the Saturday night for a good time. Fancy dinner, something pretty to wear... the works.
Then make her breakfast in the morning.
After that, do what you want for the rest of the day. If she still complains, it ain't worth spending more time dealing with that type of attention seeker.

Isn't Rube being a bit self centered for wanting to spend the day watching football? This is a once a year thing thats obviously important to her. Rube will still have 15 more games to watch through out the season. What's one game?

Drug her in her sleep. She can wake up naturally after the game is over.

Well, I posted my opinion already, but it seems like my view is quite different from most of the other people in this thread.
Like hockey, football is just a game. Life goes on whether your team wins or loses, succeeds or fails... If it's really that important to my girlfriend that I miss one game once a year because she wants to be wined and dined and treated like a queen once a year, so be it.
She's not picking a random day (there's a reason the date has its own word), and it's not like she's asking me to do this with any sort of regularity.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure she's aware that she's dating a guy who loves football. Knowing that thier anniversary falls on a Sunday should have clued her to the fact that he probably wants to watch his Eagles play. A rational gal would ask if they could do something special after the game was over.

Then in this case you walked face first right into this. Watch how you say things, especially when it comes to subject matter surrounding "Status of Relationship" type things such as anniversaries. I'm sure she wouldn't have been pissed if you feigned excitement when she mentioned it, threw out a couple of dinner suggestions and then steered its timing away from the football game.

Why is it "self centered" for wanting to spend your anniversary with your boyfriend?
I'm confused...

It's self centered when you're not flexabile about when you celebrate it.

It's also self centered to put a football game ahead of your GF.
I think cowboy is right. If rube had approached this a bit differently and worked with her to schedule things around the game, this whole mess would have been avoided

What about her approach of telling him he's not watching foootball? Her approach needs to better also. She could have said can we do someting after the game.

Well then they are both at fault and need to sit down and discuss this like reasonable adults.

Sounds like both aren't being flexible and self centered.
I've been in this situation before where I've had family commitments during Flames and Seahawks games. I PVR the games, try my best to not hear the score, then watch later. Family over sports.

This is why you get married in the Summer when sweet fata all is going on. That becomes your anniversarry it takes precedence and it's easy enough to schedule your plans to suit that date if you need. I mean you might save money getting married in Vegas on February 3rd...but what happens if one day your team finds itself in the Superbowl on that day?

No kidding!
They're supposed to celebrate each other. NOT him celebrate her.
If he wants football (at 10 in the freakin morning no less, eff, NFL season is the only time I'm up that early...) and she wants "X" then the day should include football, and "X", and then all the inbetween things tend to work themselves out and a wonderful time is had by all!
So drug her so she sleeps in, or plow her good so she sleeps in. Or both.
