I'm not a huge Ferrel fan but I laughed so hard I nearly stopped breathing on a few occaisions watching Step Brothers, the movie was straight-up hilarious. I'm not really a Stiller fan.

Nice Carlin quote in the thread, the guy was always cutting edge with that kind of humor.

Concerning the use of the word "######", I don't work with disabled people and I'm not related to any, however, before I moved to Red Deer, I had a couple friends who were Mentally Disabled, or whatever politically correct term of the year we use. I didn't call them anything other than friend, but I used the word ######ed when describing someone who had no disability at all but were acting like a fool.

I don't feel guilty for using the word. Whatever it is that makes a person different whether it be disability, colour, or culture, there will always be a new politically correct term for them that will become offensive because simply calling them anything other than a person suggests they are different and singles them out, and that is what is truly offensive.

So for all the people who feel certain terms are offensive, you really aren't helping by being offended unless you are finding a way to convince people that everyone is a person, regardless of differences. Without doing that, after a while you will probably find the new term of the day offensive and the cycle starts again.

I've worked with people who have developmental disabilities and it never crossed my mind to think of these people as "######s" or "######ed". The term doesn't apply, and I would find it offensive if someone used it that way.

I do use the word "######" and "######ed" all the time though. "That contract is ######ed, the GM of the team is truly a ######". Nobody, save for the object of derision, should be offended*. I'm not thinking that the guy is developmentally disabled and should be compared with people who are, I'm saying he's an idiot and Penner isn't worth that kind of money.


*and I do recognize how silly it is to say "nobody should be offended". It's not up to me to decide that, but still.
