I really wonder what the age cross-section of this poll would be. I would be willing to bet that most people that picked MLB in the poll are a little bit older than the NFL fans, or weren't born and raised in western Canada. It seems that MLB is essentially dead to the younger generation right now. I don't know a single sports fan in Calgary between 18-30 that would have picked MLB in that poll.

Maybe it's just the people that I happen to know, but MLB seems to be as popular with younger western Canadians as hockey is in Guatemala.

I think it also depends where you're from. Rural communities definitely have more of a baseball/softball culture than the cities, and there generally isn't an opportunity to play organized football. All the boys I grew up with were far more into baseball than football because we played it, and that seems to still be the case today in the area I came from.
