Sleeper based on last year's record? Pittsburgh. They'll win that division.
I'm not sure that fits the bill though....I'd go with one of the 49ers or Cards in that tough NFC West.

What changes have taken place to put Pittsburgh over Blatimore? I think Pitt is 3rd in that division behind Baltimore and Cincy. All 3 are pretty good and any of the 3 would make the playoffs in the NFC, but in the AFC I don't see Pittsburgh as being anything special at all. I'm thinking something like.......
x - 1. Patriots
x - 2. Chargers
x - 3. Colts
x - 4. Ravens
5. Broncos
6. Jets or Bengals
I think the Steelers have a ways to go to crack into that group.

They don't have a 35 year old crap QB as their starting QB for starters. McNair was not very good last year and won't be any better this year.

McNair wasn't great last year, but he was better than Ben. McNair had a better completion %, higher QB rating, and threw 2 less TD's and 11 less picks on almost equal amount of attempts (468-469). I'm not sure the loss of Thomas is going to kill them, they're still gonna go 10-6 or 11-5. Do you think the Steelers have improved that much? Maybe I'm wrong, but i don't think they've done much to improve their team this off season, not to mention they have a rookie coach. Could be interesting but I'll be betting on the Ravens.

A Healthy Roethelisberger, no Cowher leaving or staying distraction, and a third place schedule.

Wow a few weeks ago I was dreaming of the possibillity of a Simon-McFarland combination for the Colts in the middle......
Mcfarland, Glen, June, Harper, David, Reagor, Rhodes...the list goes on. The only good thing is the Colts seem to do a lot better with the title of underdog.

I know there are some Saints fans on the board. Maybe you could help me out.
What do you guys realisticly expect from TE Eric Johnson this year? I have him on a fantasy team and don't know if I should be optimistic about him or not. I've also got TE Scheffler (Den). Who should I be starting? It's a weak TE combo, I know, but I sacrificed my TE's to get the Ravens D.

I'm not a Saints fan, but IF (and it is a big if) Johnson can stay healthy he could have a very good year. He put up a big number of catches in SF before his string of injuries, and Brees has been known to throw up big numbers to a TE in the past.
Scheffler really went on a roll at the end of last season.
One of those 2 should be pretty decent. For the TE position, I don't think you are weak at all. There are only so many Gates to go around.
And my 49ers are going with throwback uniforms to honour Coach Walsh in the season opener. Perhaps this would be a good time to pick up a throwback Montana jersey.

We know Brees liked using his TE with his old team.

Chiefs Tackle Damian McIntosh is going to miss 4 to 6 weeks. Given that the Chiefs O-Line has already taken some major hits in the past two years this is just great news. Especially since they want to use a rookie QB this year who doesn't exactly have a history of being durable himself.

The game on Saturday night was no comfort either. The jury is still out on Croyle. In the print media the Chiefs talk about what great decisions Croyle makes. Then when you watch Hard Knocks, they talk about how accurate and strong his arm is. But his decision making is questionable. If his performance in Cleveland is any indication, I know it is early, it could be a long learning curve, especially with the problems on the O-line.

Yeah, Croyle technically isn't a rookie...but his experience is very limited. Any QB who is behind an offensive line who can't give him time is going to struggle be it Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, or Brody Croyle....But with little experience and little time to throw the ball...that has the makings of a confidence crushing season for a young QB. If that line isn't in sync from day one I have to think the team really has to think hard about starting out with the veteran guy in Huard. Huard is average talent, but I thought he showed that he's a good descision maker last year and at this point in time you're not going to destroy the confidence of a guy who you hope will lead your team for the next decade type of thing.

With the D looking very strong. Huard is the obvious choice for success this season. I really want to see Croyle get the reins. If he is as great as Peterson thinks he is. Lets get the crappy two or three seasons of his learning process out of the way now. But after watching Hard Knocks, I am getting excited about the season and winning with this defense. On that hand I would like to see Huard behind center.

Just an update for Dis on Jeremy Bloom. As a rookie, Bloom spent the entire season on IR last year, so tonight was first NFL preseason game. He was very effective in the return game, averaging 21.6 yards on 5 kickoff returns and 14.5 yards on 2 punts. Bloom also had two catches for 16 yards and looked very comfortable out catching passes from Kevin Kolb. Barring any serious injuries, he should be the starting return man for the Eagles on opening night. He probably won't figure into the WR mix as the Eagles are fairly deep at the position.
