My claim to fame is kind of twofold. I played the part of The Beast in Disney's Beauty And The Beast in high school, which was pretty cool on its own; in fact, I can remember after each show myself and the girl who played Belle were rushed out to the lobby in costume to sign autographs for people!
But, there were circumstances surrounding the production at the time that led to myself and quite a few other cast members being interviewed all over the place.
The New Brunswick Teachers Association was threatening to go on strike during negotiations with the NB government for a new CBA, and as a precursor to a strike, they implimented "work-to-rule" measures, which meant that all extra-curricular activities would stop, because the teachers were not going to volunteer any time outside of school hours.
Leading up to this, however, my high school had been planning on staging one of the first amateur productions of Disney's Beauty And The Beast musical. Because it was such a huge deal, we had booked our performances to be in the Imperial Theatre, which is a professional theatre in Saint John. Work-to-rule went into effect the day of opening night, and parents and volunteers stepped in to take the places of the teachers. All the news coverage that we got on CBC, Global, and ATV helped us sell out 5 straight shows; four that were scheduled, and another encore performance. To this day, Imperial Theatre has never had such a successful show (despite acts like Rent, Royal Canadian Air Farce, Just For Laughs, Jesus Christ Superstar).
EDIT: Also, in the summer of 2005, I travelled with my school choir to Ottawa for Canada Day and took part in the annual Unisong Choir Festival. The Festival featured choirs from all over Canada that performed individually at venues all over the city, as well as performing as a mass choir of over 400 voices on Canada Day at the National Arts Centre.
