I do not know, I called shaw yesterday and she rambled off the stations pretty fast but I did catch that there were 10 of them (coast to coast) and will cost 3.95/month.

I just called. In reality we only get 8 time shifts as one is CBC Calgary, and another in Global Edmonton.
So the new list will have:
CTV- BC
CTV- Winnipeg
CBC- Ottawa (Good for HNiC early games)
City- Toronto
CTV- Toronto
Global- Toronto
ATV- Halifax (CTV affiliate)
NTV- Nfld.

I wonder how the new Canadian timeshift package is going to affect those digital channels in the 132 to 136 (ish?) range. Since those stations are just eastern ABC, NBC, CBS, etc. are we going to get CTV Toronto digisubbed over the early broadcast of CSI on CBS? I'm not sure why but I hate that so much...

Technically, we should not see signal substitution or simsubs on those channels. However many of us Bell subscribers have been fighting them over it.
I can see CTV Winnipeg getting simsubbed as some of their programs are on the eastern feed, and Shaw does operate in Winnipeg.
I agree, that I hate it as well.

I hate it worse when you get the stupid polar bear scene or forest walk scene with the stupid music. That is much worse. I think that means that no Canadian advertiser paid for the airtime so they show the frickin' zoo.

NTV basically is a superstation that has most of the popular shows from CTV and some from Global.

This may be a stupid question but what are the point of Canadian Timeshifts? Shaw already gets the 4 major US networks from out east.
HD timeshifts would be nice.

ATV and NTV have shows on before the Eastern time zone sometimes. For example Law & Order is on at 7:00 Calgary time on NBC East, but it's on at 6:00 Calgary time on ATV.
Saturday Night Live is also on 30 minutes later on Global Toronto than NBC East.
The one I use all the time is Jay Leno is on at 11:00 Calgary time on CityTV Winnipeg. (not that Shaw is offering that channel though.)
Big thing is news; you can watch the CTV National news at 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, or midnight with these time shifts. Myself I sometimes watch the CTV Winnipeg local news if I ever need a reminder of why I left Winnipeg.
Agreed, not overly useful, but a little bit anyways.

$4/month to see CTV from Winnipeg, etc? Gimme a break. Since this is the first I have heard of this, is this something one can opt out of? $120/month to Shaw is enough already!!

Make PVRs cheap enough and no one needs timeshifting. Poof, instant more bandwidth for more HD channels!

Your idea is fine for people in the east, Photon. But how does owning a PVR allow me to watch a show 3 hours before it airs here?

lol.. ok all shows get broadcast instantly at 00:00 of that day on the international date line. So the only place you can watch shows early is Easter Island by 1/2 an hour.

I am glad that someone started a thread about this - I was ****ed when I got my letter from Shaw stating that two of the HD Channels that I thought I was already paying for were 'free previews' (and I never got a letter indicating this was the case). Now I agree that you have to charge market price for your services and be able to make money, but this sort of change is not customer friendly.
Anyway, I called Shaw to complain. They were going to direct me to the complaints line, when the operator informed me that they actually had a 'list' for complaints re: HD Plus.
So - add your voice to the list and maybe Shaw will change their billing.

I do not mind paying for the extra HD and yes I understand that TSN and Sportsnet used to be free. I am not overly happy about having to pay for them.
This is the way i look at it. We all want more HD, HD cost money, by themselves how many of us would pay for the extra 5 HD channels? I would guess very few. However, most of us now will pay the 9/month just so we can keep TSN and Sportsnet. So that give Shaw more money to HOPEFULLY contiune to roll out HD.
Perhaps it is a very simplistic view but that is the way I look at.
