As for games increasing you heartrate, probably DDR is the only game that can accomplish that feat.
I think it also increases the age at which you start to be able to talk to girls and not talk about DDR at the same time.

lol I don't play DDR, in fact I hate it. I just remember watching many stories on the news regarding DDR as the new solution to fighting child obesity while allowing kids to enjoy themselves.

Hah, I like watching people play DDR. Some guy was practicing his moves at the UofC train station once. I got a kick out of that.

Alot of games can accomplish that too. Hell, when I play NHL 06 and I'm in double OT in a playoff game my heart is pounding pretty fast. I know it's not like a real playoff game but I still find myself getting into it as if it is.

I think some gamers misinterpret that cold sweat that dribbles down the side of their body (originating from the armpits) as a workout... lol

Inferno, yeah I guess the increase in heart rate does exist in games when the situation intensifies, but it's kind of unrealistic to say that it's the same as running or weight training etc. (I need to do a bit more of those things myself)

I've been a gamer since Pong. Love 'em still and I am 40. My Dad, up until recently, also loves to play, especially golf games. He is almost 70.

There is no question in my mind that gaming helps one to become a better problem solver and a faster analyzer of data. For those that don't view video gaming as beneficial in that area, how would you consider one that pursues mastery of chess? Or is it just the difference in using a monitor or TV that lowers your opinion of the activity? Just curious.

I'm not saying it is and neither are the experts. They still say that people should do physical activities but that gaming isnt as unhealthy as some people make it out to be. It probably benefits you more than just sitting and watching TV unless of course you're watching the Flames. You know then that your heart rate will rise.

Whats the big difference between a video game league and a poker league? Neither are 'sports', both have 'negative' social aspects.

Larf! Hilarious vid.

Just finished "God of War". Must be getting cheap in my old age... not buying every game as they come out, just focussing on ones that are real hits (God of War is a PS2 "Greatest Hits" game). Totally enjoyed this one, and was surprised that at one point, you engaged in a threesome (nice frontal er.... renderings...) to gain experience. And could do it again... and again.. and again... had to go out for a smoke after a while!

Do you mean the tomato/tobacco hybrid that Homer invented on the Simpsons? Weird.

I practically lived in arcades in the '80s, I'm 36 now and still enjoy video games very much. I keep thinking that some day I'm going to get sick of playing them, but it hasn't happened yet...I can picture myself playing NHL 2K36 in the old folks home on the PS17. On the other hand, I also keep up with the physical activity, play sports etc. I think if you let your kids play video games, but at the same time try to instill a love of outdoor/physical activities, you'll do ok.

*note to self: check out God of War...(Thanks Shawnski)

This may be a dumb question, but what is ET? I used to play UT (Unreal Tournament) but can't figure out what ET stands for.

Wolfenstein ET. A free game, available for download on the internet.

Basically its an online first person shooter based in WW2.

This MLG is crazy... The Literacy rate is going down already and now because of this MLG... it will go down even further... by the end of our (late teens, early 20s) the kids who are one or a couple generations down will only know the words like pwn or noob or STFU... and will have problems spelling out full words and use "txt tlk" instead... (I also support the Save the vowels movement)
