Hopefully Parekh is good to go for the world juniors and then gets traded to a team in the OHL that is making a run. No need to burn through 40 games with him at the NHL level and he might get killed this year. Probably needs another 15-20 pounds on that frame just to survive at the NHL level physically.

Definitely a lack of awareness on his part.

It's great that he's not afraid of getting hit, but he definitely looked to be expecting a routine bump that wouldn't damage. Took his time with the puck to ensure he got it off his stick correctly. What snagged my eye is how nonchalant he looked about it. It was less 'prepare to be hit' and more 'pretend the incoming hit isn't real'
He'll learn, I'm sure.

The physical game is one of the biggest differences between junior and pro. There are some big kids in junior, but there’s also 16 year olds skating around at 160 pounds. I can’t remember the last huge hit I saw in a Hitmen game.

Parekh should spend next summer with Pospisil.

I assume it hasn't been announced what the injury is? Hope it isn't the shoulder, as that can have a wide range of effects, and shoulder injuries can often be cumulative. And the timeline could vary greatly.
Have heard it might be the collarbone, which would be much better, and the timeline on that would probably be in the 4-6 week range, which would leave him in good shape for the WJCs.

As an internet medical expert, which is to say I know literally nothing about how to judge injuries, I watched the video and few times and it doesn’t seem like a shoulder based on the way he was moving his arms back to the bench. He didn’t seem to have a lack of mobility. Then, on the bench, with him seemingly reaching under his equipment to feel the collarbone area, made me think collarbone as well.

No surprise this happened with Huska's system and how he keeps telling everyone to funnel pucks back to the point

Yup! Ive seen enough cycling related broken collarbone reactions to recognize it when Zayne was testing it on the bench.
I hope Flames can get creative with the rules (conditioning stint) to help him get up to NHL speed once the injury heals. He’s our only blue chip prospect right now.

No need to get creative with the rules. They will be allowed to do it.
In fact I think if he was a healthy scratch for a certain number of games (5?) they could have done it.

Ugh. Thanks for pointing that out.
So they could have just sat him five straight, and he’d be (probably) injury free showing Matvei what a real ‘Makar of the AHL’ looks like.
Man, do we ever cheer for a stupid team. Under the Flames logo should be ‘We Are Stupud’ in Latin. Or maybe pig latin would be better.

Seems unfair to try to blame the team for the injury. Just days ago fans were freaking out for not playing him in every game.

Just saying, benching him every second game vs 5 straight and having another development option - given his struggles at the NHL level - seems dumb to me.
But yeah, they thought that cadence was better for him. That’s fair.
It’s easy as a fan to second guess now.

Perfect - as an aspiring internet medical expert myself, I am ashamed to say that I wasn't confident about my diagnosis. But with two IMEs coming to the same conclusion, it's a statistical certainty that we've nailed it!

How much development can you actually get by sitting a player in the NHL for 2 weeks followed by 2 weeks in the AHL?
Also, I'm pretty sure that Huska was trying to put Parekh in a position to succeed, instead of outright scratching the kid. Besides can you imagine the fan outrage if they did it right out of the gate.

Soft hockey causes injuries.

What annoyed me is Klapka had Bedard lined up later in the game and pulled up so much it was like he was afraid of contact.

FWIW I’ve heard it’s not broken, different source but thought I’d share.

Probably the same number of sat games, but big minutes for five straight games playing in the AHL which is about .75 NHL, right?
I think that would help him. But yeah, I’m not paid to make those kinds of decisions. Just a fan perspective.
