Might be a top 10 all time favorite player.
Get well and healthy brother, hockey is less important.

I still remember at the time being so disappointed we lost Brodie and replaced him with a broken down Tanev. I went on to watch Tanev be a complete steal of a deal over his entire 3.5 years as a Flames. Incredible player and I understood why Canuck fans loved him so much when he played for them.
Tough news if this is the end of the line for him.

You can tell them apart because TrentCrimmIndependent has teeth… plural.

One of the most directly impactful players on the ice who’s ever worn the Flaming C. Just a beast defensively.

Agreed. I love to hate on BT and he made some brutal UFA signings early with Raymond, Brouwer, and Neal but he ended his run with 4 very solid signings of Tanev, Markstrom, Coleman, and Kadri have all been great value for the flames.

Their heads bumped when Tanev wasn’t expecting any contact. Anyone could get a concussion from that hit.

I think you missed one...
As for Tanev, at a certain point you hope guys step back from hockey before they wind up like Joe Murphy because they're so damaged.
Most players don't get to choose their exit from the NHL. He is such a warrior I worry about it.

Huberdeau. Although in fairness that was an extension rather than UFA.
But to the point Brad made early mistakes but later on was better, I'd point to that and say "no he wasn't".

I mean I think the Huberdeau contract is among the worst in the league and yes I was talking about UFA deals. I will say the Huberdeau deal made sense at the time as well just aged terribly but likely has peaked with how bad it has been with his improved play and rising cap. In terms of extensions the Weegar one looks great.

If you add Huberdeau then you have to add Weegar. And Pospisil, Tkachuk, Mangiapane, and Vladar.

I don't think the Huberdeau deal ever made sense, it was a panic reaction by Treliving and the owners. While his drop-off wasn't predicted it was a clear overpayment for someone who was viewed as a pretty one-dimensional player (who in all fairness has become much more well-rounded).

I'm not 100% sure their heads did hit. And if they did, that wasn't the main part of the collision that affected Tanev's head. Take a look at the overhead shot in slow motion - the direction of Tanev's head movement is past Demidov's helmet initially instead of directly away from it, like you would expect if the helmets were colliding.
