Another good effort, but a couple unfortunate sequences swung the game. I still believe in this team. Get Huby back and see how things go. Far too early to be giving up on the season.

I personally like Huby of the last 1.5 seasons quite a bit (I think it was that new years game mid 23/24 after a dry month when he turned the corner here).

In that time he's been like 0.8 PPG, scoring a lot of goals and tenacious and responsible in all three zones.

If people still see him as the version he was when he first arrived (which he established pretty emphatically last season that he no longer is), they have some catching up to do.

But I guess since he's an 8M player making 10.5 that asterisk will continue to follow him around for some.

May not be a bad thing.
I'd be scared if early season results with a poor line up led to early decisions.

It is really early, but the Flames start the season bottom 3 in the league, with one more game played than everyone they are tied with. That's a tough start to the season. If they don't find a way to dig themselves out of this hole quickly, the season will be lost early this year. In the long run, that's probably what this team needs anyway. I don't even think that they have played particularly poorly - they played well just as much as they have played poorly in my mind. I think it was a tough schedule, and unlike last season, they aren't managing to outwork anybody from the start of the game to the end of it. They don't have the talent to beat many teams in the league without out-working teams, and without a lot of attention to detail. Flames aren't playing with either at a particularly high level right now, and the losses have come quick.

Never drafted top 3, which goes to say that they've always tried to compete in spite of their deficiencies.

Then add in having to face McDavid for a decade after the lottery losers got him with their fourth lottery win..

They're due.

What are you thinking? Rasmus and Coleman are about the only trade assets I can think of.

A long bad season can change a lot of perspectives. Maybe a guy like Kadri decides this isn't what he signed up for.
I keep Weegar to mentor Parekh.
And you are stuck Huberdeau.

So the list is probably Andersson, Coleman, and maybe Kadri if he changes his POV.

No question. Most deserved and it's not even close.
They are the only team, other than Vegas, never to draft in the top 3 I'm pretty sure.

Not due. Overdue.

This will always be the comparison for me as i was really wanting Buium with that pick.

Understand the home run swing on Zayne but IMO Buium was and will be the better overall player, hope I end up being wrong instead of the Flames.

Zary being bounced around with limited ice time is ridiculous. This is with two regulars out of the line up. The team has too many mediocre players and no place to put all of them.

Yeah good point with Kadri. I wonder how that might go, and whether Flames would approach him first.

Early days still.

You're welcome. I started watching this game in the third, and the Flames rarely score when I watch. Love seeing us at the bottom of the western conference. Keep playing the young guys. Need to force management's hand and trade some vets. I look forward to watching more games.

It seems like both Andersson and Weegar have a similar pattern in their games. Both can play really well and they can build confidence throughout the game and be making plays but, eventually, their confidence leads to a big mistake. Like they eventually make a play that exceeds their ability or they just make a mental error and their game falls apart. Have seen this a few times this season and lots last season. Both of them had a great first half of the game followed by big blunders that ended up in the back of the net.

I also don’t like this. It’s similar to how Bennett was utilized.

Yeah he's been one of our most dynamic forwards the last couple years.

Not sure why this coach is trying to neuter him.

I think his play will see him move up the line-up in short order. He's having a relatively strong start to the year. I like that he's at centre right now, and hope it continues.

Would just like to try a couple games of lines that really haven’t been tried before. I’m sure they will have flaws and it may lead to losses but the same old same old just doesn’t seem to work.

Coronato-Zary-Klapka
Farabee-Frost-Gridin
Coleman-Backlund-Honzek
Sharangovich-Kadri-Kirkland

Parekh-Weegar
Andersson-Bahl
Hanley-Pachal

Give Zary a run at centre with Coronato on his wing. Try it for a few games and see if it works.
