Wolf separating himself a bit from Vladar as the season goes on.

Getting harder to justify the 50-50 split of starts, even though yes the team doesn't make it easy on Vladdy when he starts.

It's January. At what point is that excuse no longer valid?

It’s never valid. Avoiding injury is a skill. It doesn’t happen magically.

I'd like to see some referee-influenced outcomes favouring the Flames for a change. Law of averages and whatnot.

Oddly enough they were the 6th most penalized team playing the leading most penalized team tonight.

When his new contract kicks in...lol, I actually dunno, hope he has a way better second half of the year.

I'm not sure how to feel about flames successes or losses this season. Going into the season I had low expectations- just wanted entertaining games, young players to step up (which is happening), wins against the teams I hate (oilers, oilers, oilers, Tampa) while finishing low and getting a good draft pick- as hard as it is to lose a whole bunch. Yet I have obviously been enjoying flames wins- like the canucks game the other night. Plus it's the canucks... there's always a bit of enjoyment beating them.
So far this season we are middle of the pack, exactly where we don't want to be. We are in the 'just missed the playoffs' territory. So, a loss to Utah on a January night doesn't seem like the worst thing. Mostly because I don't hate Utah.
I guess the only hope you'd have with a middle of the pack team is you just make the playoffs and catch lightning in a bottle. But do you really see this roster beating teams like the Knights, the Panthers 4 games out of 7?

Vladar has now played 19 games this season. Making him the 32nd guy in the league to do so.

Among those 32 G's:

He is 28th in Save%

He is 28th in GAA.

Wolf has also played 19 games

He is 8th in Save %

He is 13th in GAA.

Behind the same team.

Vladar has now played in 94 NHL games.

Since the start of the 20/21 season (Vladars debut season) until now, 51 goaltenders have played 94 or more games.

He ranks 51st in Save%

He ranks 40th in GAA.

Its pretty obvious at this point that he is what he is.

But not in the same building. Wolf has played most of the home games, Vladar most of the road games. That alone biases the numbers in Wolf's favour.

Also what the hell rooney? Guy was headed to the box. One of the dumbest plays I've seen. At that point I thought the refs owed us one but he completely erased that. I'd bench him honestly

It was stupidity by Rooney but man the reffing was atrocious tonight.

Should have been called,

4 minutes for Valimaki, (two for the original and then two for diving)
2 minutes for Rooney (unsportsmanlike)

When the Flames go against a fast team, it's old men against boys. Their playing good enough to get a #16 or 17th pick again, really tough to build a winner with that system.

That game was hardly men against boys...it was a tossup

Not a good enough team to make playoffs.

Not a bad enough team to get a good draft pick and game changer prospect.

Deliciously mediocre as is the Tradition of the Calgary Flames.

Well, the one game a year I travel to and bring my sons and nephew. Four tickets, two nights in an hotel, gas, meals… and we had to watch that crap in the third period.

Done with Vladar. He did nothing tonight to help them win. The boys were so excited to see Wolf and so disappointed when Vladar was named starter. I tired to convince them it would be alright but I guess they were right.

Flames were pretty listless tonight. One of those games where I feel like I put in way more care and effort than they did.

Surprised my boys are still fans.

They are trending at 91 points. Almost a textbook Flames trend.

I don’t think they are consistent enough to get on a heater and better their position. I also don’t think they are crappy enough to fall from the sky.

Pure Flames. Oh well. All I really asked for was for this season to be entertaining and it has been.

At some point they need to make Wolf the clear #1 and move Vladar back into being a backup. Vladar is a great backup and Wolf is clearly ready for more starts. I know they are easing Wolf into the larger role, but he hasn't faltered with his current work load and looks really to take over the crease. They can always move it back to a 50/50 scenario if it isn't working.
