Funniest post in a long time.!

Man neer knew this place was so abundent(sp?) with UofC students.
Har har.....Poli Sci isn't all useless - I can't wait after I finish my Poli Sci degree to go knocking door to door as a census taker. I've even bought a new pair of walking shoes for the momentus occasion when they hand me my forms and paper bag!

I saw this girl yesterday at u of c and I could literally see the bottom of her butt cheeks under her skirt when she was walking. Going back to school has it's benefits.

Just arrived here in Sudbury a few days ago for school, and am currently coming to you live from a computer room on campus at Laurentian University.

What the hell am I doing out here? Sports Administration. It's really cool stuff. A practical, focused program that combines the world of business and economics with the world of sport. I recently uncovered this local newspaper article about a recent grad of the program, and his recent success(es). Although it stings a little to read that as a Flames fan, it is pretty exciting for me to think I could follow a similar career path and one day work in the NHL. Here's the link:

Hockey Dream Comes True

But yeah, good luck to everybody with another year of school. This will be my 4th full year of university, but first in this program, so another 3 to go after this one. And Sudbury is not a great place to love. Especially coming from AB. But the people are nice, and I'm here to study, not party and spend money. Right?

I started August 19th....only 2 classes though. Too many responsibilities to go full time. After changing my major, I'm looking at 3-4 years before I'm degreed as opposed to 3 semesters.

Oh well, couldn't have taken my new and wonderful job and didn't have the time to dedicate to the other major.

Yup. Too rough for my liking. I played in the U of C ball hockey league for a few years. Didn't mind the fighting as much as the stickwork. Lots of dirty stickwork.

Actually... funny stat about Political Science majors...

More of us get into Law School than other faculties... (we tend to do a lot better on the LSAT than other faculties... at least it was so back in 2002 when I was told this), and there are a staggering amount of CEOs with Political Science bachelors...

So really, don't waste your time trying to poke holes in this degree, its pretty solid. Poli Sci and Economics are the two useful Social Sciences, the rest are your pizza delivery guys.

oh... and the Dean of Law at the U of C got a BA in Political Science before going into law.

Great.

I will get the armour ready.

I played goal for a team last year, and they dont let you use pads, which is really stupid, so I am going to play out this year.

I hope I dont get killed. I do kinda like it, when it gets chippy though.

Ya but the lesson of the story is don't stop at the poli sci degree.
Hell, I'd agree with that too... but really in today's workforce, can anyone really stop at one degree and expect to do really well?

I get a kick out of some of my friends who think they are going to inherit the earth cause they go to Haskayne School of Business... a Bachelor of Commerce means they have a ticket to the lineup, not the show, and they could easily be beaten by a guy with a B.A. in Economics or Political Science. I know a person with a Business degree making maybe $30k/yr as an office worker, so its really the person, not the degree.

I know I'm going for Law after my 4th year of Poli Sci, and my friends that want to succeed in business are planning on their MBAs sooner rather than later.

Wow holy crap some arrogant engineers and business students here.

Did you all you business majors here that all the Liberal Arts majors are getting your jobs now? Thats kinda what happens when every 3rd person takes business.

Engineers think they are the be-all, end-all for careers. Would be completely boring for me. Nope I will stay with my Poli Sci thank you. Besides I don't want your regular job anyway.

I'd argue with you, but I'm not one of those arrogant business students. I actually agree with you.

There was an article in the Herald last week (I'm assuming that's what you're referring to peter12), about MBA's horrible reputation in the business community - that they're very arrogant in interviews, or, if they're able to charm people in the interview, they turn out to be ***holes once they're hired. Liberal arts majors are able to think better and have better research skills than these cookie-cutter individuals. It also said that BComms and MBAs are fairly comparable.

But yea, nothing wrong with a Poli Sci or Econ degree whatsoever.

Nothing wrong with the BComm either - I'm actually happy with my choice going in there, it's definately something I'm interested in, and relates closely to what I want to do with my life. But like you said, it's all about the person and how you're able to use the skills you learn in university. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a doofus.

Exactly calf, do whatever is the best for you. Don't take engineering because it's the "thing" to do. Don't take Poli Sci because its the most successful pre-Law course.

It's all about choice in post-secondary, just don't try to tell me one degree is more useless than the next or that I will be an assistant manager of a McDicks. Thats why the rest of the University dislikes engineers and business.

PS this wasn't directed at you calf.

Eeee...I get knocked quite a bit from my friends who are taking "more practical" courses in IT and business and such at SAIT.

I get the "So you like take gym and stuff" crap all the time. Ya that, and a whole wack of science, biomechanics, statistics, and psych courses, plus volunteer doing grunt work at the hospital so I can cross my fingers and hopefully get a crack at getting into the Masters in Physiotherapy program at UofA.

As a kinesiology student I could royally ###### myself and end up with just a general Ba if I don't keep me marks up and get into a Masters program..but such are the chances I choose to take knowing I really wouldn't be happy crunching numbers as an accountant or suiting up for the boardroom.

That's not a knock against accountants, engineers, poli sci majors, or anyone else for that matter. If it's what makes you tick, then so be it. Making money's nice too, but at the expense of being bored out of my skull for the rest of my life, I'll take a chance on following my instincts anyday.
