I don’t mind making the hit. Compete and be agressive. He should be sending an FU and it tends to be rewarded in contracts.

He did leave his feet though. That part isn’t cool and I think 2 games.

This has nothing to do with setting a tone and everything to do with a player pissy that he had a bad game in a loss and taking a cheap shot. That wasn't admirable 50, 20, 10 years ago.
Scott Stevens says hello. He was well admired for his open ice hitting ability and this hit by Ras wouldn’t even be in Stevens’ top 200.

The game is getting soft. It’s being made so skilled players don’t have to pay attention. I personally think the game has regressed and is significantly less entertaining than 20 yrs prior.

There was lots of talk about the type of hit Stevens made. The Kariya hit in particular stands out as a controversial hit even at the time.

I will agree that there were still many celebrating those hits, moreso than today. But the more we learn about the results of head injuries I would expect that many of the people celebrating those would change their stance. There will always be people to ignorant to care about the long term effects of others though.

Should also be up to the players to protect themselves. Laine made himself vulnerable and set himself up perfect for that type of contact. Don’t want to have head contact? Stop cutting into the middle with your head down…. It’s pretty simple.

LOL

There is a reason these hits rarely happen now, because it is easy enough to not hit guys in the head.

This play is 100% on Anderson making a dumb decision late in a game he was likely angry about losing.

The easiest way to avoid headshots is to not hit guys in the head. Its really super simple to do.

Should be 2 games, will probably be only 1.

I could not find any previous supsensions or fines in a 30 second search so I think he'll get off earlier than he deserves.

Didn’t Jamie Benn get a 5k fine for trying to blind Mangiapane?

How does this hit deserve 2 games for a first time?

It's unfortunate play but a good lesson for Laine to keep his head up trying to pad his stats with 2 seconds left.

Hilarious hearing Johnny chime in I don't recall him speaking up in Calgary ever.

I have no time for that #### on this team. Hope he gets the book thrown at him and the Team itself punishes him.

Likely is 1 game, should be 0 or fine.

The game changed years ago when head injuries started to be understood and player safety became important.
The fact you're still going on about it years after these changes is weird.
You might as well be complaining about the good old days when goalies didn't have to wear masks.

I hope Laine has CTE. I’m old school. If you aren’t giving your opponents brain damage, then you’re soft. These guys make so much money, their health is secondary to my entertainment.

Except suspending Rasmus is stupid. Eye for an eye. CBJ should be getting revenge next game by trying to injure a flames star.

Was also great to see Huberdeau in the mix at the end.

Johnny would just grab a hold of someone and hug them and skate off. Now he talking a big game.

If someone isn't taking off their skate and trying to stab another player with it, I'm not entertained.

Johnny indicated they would be out for revenge next game.

All of a sudden he has a pair.

I think it’s probably natural to be somewhat glad it’s a player on your team blowing someone up vs a player on your team getting blown up. Especially as, realistically, Laine will likely miss more games than Andersson.

That said, and while this changes absolutely nothing about what I think of Andersson and think some of the criticism of his decision making is over the top, it’d be nice if the league put some effort into getting this stuff out of the game. Give him 10 and move along.
