I love this player, and he’s worth every penny of that contract and more. He’s not big, but he plays like a wolverine on skates- he’s mean, and he’s got guts. This is the kind of player you win with. He even got a few Selke votes, IIRC.

Hagel is good, probably a 20 goal 20 assist guy playing with 2 stars getting 65 because of them. $6.5 mil is a lot for how good he is.

People crap on Backlund and Coleman's contract, but they put up 45-55 playing a defensive role and lots of minutes on the PK. Hagel is young so that is good but on a different team in a different role he isn't getting $6.5 mil
Blake Coleman’s career high in points is 38. He plays a defensive role in part because he is not a player who creates offence. The Flames signed him to a six year deal when he was 30 years old because Brad wanted him and the Flames sign guys entering their 30’s to longterm deals.

He doesn't need to get better if he produces in this same range.

Him and Jeannot should be the face of the franchise as Kucherov and Stamkos age out b

There's a reason Hagel gets to play with the top guys, and gets time on PP1- it's because he's a good offensive player! Let's look at the top 50 scorers in the league and see who benefits from playing with the top offensive players, and from playing PP minutes- the answer is ALL of them.

Hagel is a nightmare on the forecheck, and does a lot of the dirty work for his line.
