I remember going to the Dells when I was a kid. Very western themed but I'm sure things may have changed in the 40 years since I was there. Riding the Duck boats was the most fun think out there.

I recall a pretty good mini golf course in Wisconsin Dells and we also really enjoyed the International Crane Foundation. We weren’t planning anything there and just stumbled upon it on the way to Mil-A-Wa-Kay. Which is Algonquin for The Good Land.

So late to this thread, but we did this trip in 2018 to Montreal. Kids were aged 6 and 9 at the time.

We did have a couple of long driving days, longest was Medicine Hat to Brandon on our second day. Heatwave in August so we made a stop at a small town in Saskatchewan that had an outdoor pool and picnic area, little rest stops like this made all the difference with the kids.

I have family with cabins in Manitoba and the Kenora area, so we broke up a bit of the trip by staying in those spots along the way. The kids getting to enjoy that lake swimming versus the Alberta sloughs was an experience!

Thunder Bay to check out the Terry Fox memorial was a good stop, but we did carry on driving to Marathon along lake Superior to reduce the next leg. Good little town for an overnight.

Then it was Marathon to Manitoulin island, and we did take the ferry mentioned from South Baymouth to Tobermory. Family in Kitchener so over there for a night, then on to Niagara Falls to check it out and ultimately staying with a friend just NE of Toronto.

Next day was off to Ottawa, and then same day up to Montreal.

All in all it was a pretty easy trip, my kids travelled well and with making lots of little stops at attractions or points of interest along the way we kept them engaged and not bored (no electronic devices on the drive).
