Sutter is the best, but the best still has his weakness. His is not adequately fostering/trusting young players over old vets.
This team doesn’t need a trade. It needs one of these young guys we’ve assigned so much trade value to (Zary, Pelletier, Coronato) to step up and move Toffoli down a peg.
Even if in short term it hurts and it’s obviously risky, the upside of developing that player would be massive.

I disagree with this. Sutter started Hanifin - Andersson as a first pairing last year, he gave Kylington a spot on the 2nd pairing. All of them were 24 last year, and developed quite a bit under his tutelage. Dube also received some tough love, and was even scratched before getting hot towards the end of last season.
I personally liked how the younger players developed under Sutter. I prefer it to how we played Bennett and Jankowski... with them being stuck on the 3rd line, contributing very little on a nightly basis. That's the problem with simply giving a prospect ice-time, it doesn't guarantee that prospect will improve and develop the way we want.
Right now the bar to get into the NHL is higher, the energy a player brings to stick in the lineup is higher. A prospect better bring it, or he will be sent down. It makes sense to me because a prospect is going to be more of a liability defensively, and more prone to making mistakes.

People keep saying he's "young" and going to get better but need to look at Monahan as an example to someone that was in a similar trajectory in their respective positions at a similar age as well.
All these guys on here thinking we lost yesterday because we didn't have Hanifin is laughable.

I wasn't aware that Hanifin, being on a "similar trajectory" to Monahan, had operations on both hips and both wrists in the past two seasons like Monahan did.
What's funny is the suggestion that there is any reason to believe that these two players are on anywhere near the same trajectory.
And yes, with both Kylington and Hanifin out, we had to play 3rd pairing D on the 2nd pair and benchwarmers on the 3rd pair, so Hanifin's last-minute absence, particularly in the context of Kylington's absence, left the team without 2 of its top 4 and without its 2 fastest D against a young, fast team, resulting in problems with odd-man rushes and gap control. So it was a huge factor in the loss, resulting in all of the D slotting in the wrong place in the lineup.

Neither Pelletier or Zary have been good down in the AHL. Tells me they are still finding their groove this season. Don't think they are ready for a promotion up.

Not sure what Toffoli has to do around here, he has been one of the best forwards. Those other guys need to earn it, they haven't yet.
Flames are also 3-1 with a tough schedule

Coronato is still in college. Zary doesn’t look like he’s ready for the AHL, let alone the NHL. I had hope for Pelletier but he had his chance in camp/preseason and failed to impress. If he wants another shot he needs to light it up for the Wranglers this year.
None of the young guys is ready. It sucks, but it’s not Sutter’s fault.
