I mean the franchise has been in town since 1980 and has 1 cup. If superstitions actually mattered then based off of this thread, they should have more championships than what tron spends on one period in beer

If anything the playoff futility the flames have had over the last few decades should be signs that you should stop doing these things if you really cared
As far as I'm concerned, I'm the only real person in the world, and you, Johnny, and everybody else is construct of my own imagination. Everything I do matters.

In my forebrain, I don't believe any of it.

That being said, I've worn an Iginla jersey for at least 10 games, either at the Dome or at some other public viewing location. We lost every single one of them. So tonight, I'm sporting a Gaudreau jersey.

Dusted off my flag red Jagr jersey because the retro red I usually wear on game days didn't work for game 2 or 3, and I can't wear the reverse retro blasty that I wore for game 4 to the dome. If they don't win tonight it'll be blasty time for the rest of the playoffs.

That's about the extent of my 'stitiousness

EDIT - Oops, I thought you were talking about G6 in 2004!
I watched this game with a few friends and I remember it was the birth of the very first (but as a one-and-done) playoff superstition.

Down 4-0 early, some had started to lose interest and so we started a dumb kids contest to see who could hold onto this vertical support beam the longest without sliding to the bottom and touching the floor. Once we started taking serious tries at it, like the first 1min attempt, the Flames scored their first goal.

So naturally we redoubled our efforts. 4-2.

Us kids were starting to believe. Shirtless attempts were being made now with one person on towel duty wiping the sweat off. 4-3.

At this point the lengths we'd go to in order to hold onto that support beam as long as possible became utterly ridiculous. One guy went down to his boxers and wrapped all four limbs around the beam and hung on for dear life with an agonized look on his face the whole time.

4-4, tie game!

Everyone was on board now and kept enthusiastically trying to set personal bests, but we all just got too exhausted past double OT and gave up for the 3rd OT. Guess we should have kept trying, haha

My dad passed away a few months ago and when I've been at games in person I've been wearing his watch and it's been perfect so far at the Dome.
Sorry for your loss brother. Keep wearing that watch!!

I am definitely a little stitous. I wash losing jerseys between games etc. Game 1 I wore a home jersey and watched at home with AC and we won. Games 2 and 3 I had to work so watched on a computer in uniform, game 2 hung the jersey in my office and wore a pin we lost. Game 3 I stashed the jersey and used a different computer. Game 4 at home with AC and wore the road jerseys. So tonight AC coming over again and home red jersey. Go Flames Go!!!!!

Hmm, I don't like where this talk is trending.

You see, the Flames never in the history of the world lost a playoff series before I was born, and so far, they have never lost a playoff series after I'm dead.

Does this mean I have to off myself for the team?

Listened to the two losses on the radio, first time this year I listened to games on the radio and we lose. No more listening to Flames games on the radio. Might listen to an oilers game.

2004 - Could not listen to 'In the Dome' on game days. Of course my school would play it on the PA on game days, so I had to plug my ears which got me a couple weird looks until I explained that it was a playoff superstition.

2015 - We had a perfect winning home record both rounds when I watched on a dinky little 17" CRT TV in the kitchen.

2018 - Canadian airspace. Had to travel overseas for a wedding. Things seemed to unravel rapidly as soon as I stepped off the boarding tunnel and onto the plane during Game 2, where they tied it with a couple minutes left then MacKinnon pulling a MacKinnon in OT.

2020 - The Cursed TV. Friend had a somewhat dated 55" flatscreen from the early 2010s. We lost every single game that playoffs watching on this TV. Including the one L to the Jets during the play-in. I only clued in after we lost Game 5 but my friend did not believe in the curse. I told him ok fine, if we win this game I'll drop the schtick but if lose this series to this curse... I'm never coming over to watch another playoff game on this TV.

So Game 6 starts, we go up rapidly 3-0, friend goes "See? There's no curse, this superstition stuff is bull". Swear to God almost right that moment that Hintz or someone made it 3-1 and then we proceeded to get dummied by the hockey gods that he mocked so egregiously, another 6 unanswered goals going in past Talbot/Rittich.

2022 - Trying to figure out what works so far still. But I'm wearing the same Flames t-shirt I had on when we won Game 4. Games 1-3 was the Reebok Home Red jersey.
in 2015, every time I watched the game at my Canuck pal's place, they won. Every time I watched at my place with my (then) girlfriend, we lost. Every time. I wore my Markstrom home jersey all day before Game 4, did the same at the zoo in 25 degree heat today. My jersey's smelly, but it's worth it.

None at all. For players I get it, as a fan, nothing I do matters short of throwing stuff onto the ice.

I have no problem with fans that are superstitious, unless they get upset that others don't participate in their nonsense

I'd just like to throw out that the Flames are 1-0 when I attend in person so if anyone out there has season tickets and is superstitious I will gladly take your tickets off your hands. For the team of course.

I’m not really superstitious but tonight I was trying on a new shirt I got and the score was 1-0, then Mangiapane turned it up and scored that electric goal, Superman shirt!

Last game I wore my new playoff gear and they won too, plus it arrived that day and after game 3 when there was a lot of doubt.

You still have to be a fan.

I didn't wear a Flames jersey the last 2 games. I won't be wearing one for game 6.
