To be honest, I like the players on the Flames protected list more than than most teams. They would have been in a tough spot protection-wise if Valimaki didn't miss a season, so in that case they may have had a few good forwards like Backlund, Dube, and Mangiapane available to protect their D.

I'd be interested to hear from Treliving if there have been players available in trade that never happened because they didn't want to lose assets in this draft.

That could have been read differently. As in protecting Gio would cost one of Andersson, Hanifin, or Tanev.

So you are Francis...you want one experienced high-priced Dman.

Do you take LS Gio at 38 for one season or RS PK Subban at 32 for one year? (Subban 2M more)

Probably should have said 3-4 players, but Tampa certainly has 5 good players to choose from, not including UFAs. Washington and St Louis and Colorado as well have 3-4,

Certainly a destination Gio would agree to since thats where he lives in the summer.

If Seattle takes Dermott it becomes a lot more plausible too.
He officially moved out to Calgary full time a couple years ago but I doubt he would mind heading back home.

If it was my decision I would take Gio, and place the C on his jersey.

Great move the Habs to save their backup goalie.

Landeskog is a pending UFA, they won't select him as signing is most likely not going to occur imo

Subban. Hope for the bounce back, plus a great guy for marketing purposes with your new team.

The Kracken are going to have to pick up some big contracts to hit $60 mil. Probably four or five guys with $5 mil + hits.

The key thing they’ll be looking at is term. Cap space will be just as valuable next offseason. So Voracek at three more years? Nope. But Gio at one? Looks like a slam dunk to me. Get a top-four guy to help push for a playoff spot, and if you fall short deal him at the deadline.

Whomever Seattle takes, I don't think they get a team as good as Las Vegas the first year. There are good goaltenders available though, but specifically on D things look pretty bare.

They can also sign UFA's to hit the cap floor, my guess they don't take very many big contracts.

Cap space is worth something....

With Tampa for example, I bet they take "Cal Foote"

Again....is that true?

I think they only have to get to 45M with the draft itself, and then get to 60+ with UFA and trades.

Maybe I'm out of the loop but the only player I'd want on the Flames from Washington's list is Dillon, and he's no more than a middle 6 D-man. Ovechkin isn't going anywhere

They had so few decent forwards they protected Sprong who's average at best

Looks like about 48M?

https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nhl/...715r9b87vkxwpj

At least 20 of those players must be under contract for 2021-22 and have a value between 60 and 100 percent of the upper limit ($81.5 million) of the salary cap.
