Other than Lucic, we actually don't.. Not at Ritchies level anyway. Hits like a truck and puts some fear in the oppositions defenders. Our team is already too soft.

If Brad does his job and acquires a few more top 9 forwards his ice-time shouldn't be an issue. I think Ryan will get 1m+ somewhere. I'd also take Leivo back at league minimum.

Buddy Robinson would probably be the closet comparable within the organization, but doesn't meet the games played requirement.

Ritchie would be fine at #4RW. That's about it. Seriously, the Flames really need to address the #1 and #2 RW (RHS) situation.

Aside from that, this has long been spoken about as the Flames plan to meet expansion requirements.

Ryan will be gone to UFA.

If ritchie is the 13/14 forward I’m okay with this. But he isn’t gonna be

Brad always pays a little more than he has to which helps keeps the players happy. Doubt many teams were offering more than league minimum for Ritchie, but that little bit of extra juice shows that Brett is valued.

Ritchie is awful and the worst hockey player to suit up for the flames in a long time.

He’s probably an ok dude, so props to him for getting some cash and filling an exposure requirements.

Hopefully he gets to enjoy the popcorn/Stockton most of next season though.

Is one of the least effective players in the league? He’s not here to score goals and drive offense. If thats your expectation of this type of player then you are not seeing clearly.

What is he here to do, exactly? Just being a big lunk isn't good enough in 2021.

The Flames got demonstrably worse in every single facet of the game during Ritchie's shifts.

He will be waiver fodder for the year. You know, unless the Flames trot out the same roster..

Out of all the randos that played on the team last year, I thought he was the best out of them all. It's one year at league minimum, so nothing to really thing about.

I expected Ritchie to be re-signed expansion draft or not. Seemed like a favourite of Darryl's. I thought he was alright in the bottom 6 and bad in the top 6

Can't believe people are mad at this signing because Darryl likes him. It can be fully buried, 1 year, and brings some toughness to the team. If we let him walk Darryl would probably just take a liking to a similar guy, like Buddy

This is roof that Treliving is an idiot and should be fired. Flames being the Flames.

(am I doing it right?)

laughable that some people are freaking out. Ritchie is what he is - a serviceable #12 - 14 player. He performed his role last year and will do so again this year, when in the lineup. Plus, they need a signing for the ED.

All good, and nothing to be concerned about here.

As long as he's stapled to the 4th line(unlikely), then I actually like having him in the lineup. But yeah, you just can't have him up with the top 6, even in a short replacement role. Move up a friggin defenseman if you have to.

https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/.../brett-ritchie

Brett Ritchie spent 135 minutes or 37% of his ice time with Gaudreau and Monahan and got zero (0) points with that line. 7 of his 8 even strength points were when lined up with Derek Ryan

Also, there are other teams that slot guys like Spezza or Perry onto bottom lines at league min deals and get guys that are around .5 ppg in that role. But those are playoff teams

Flames had a pinch point to avoid having to expose Backlund and seems like Ritchie was able to parlay that into a nice little contract. Good for him.
Needed to be done.
I don't assume it means he has a regular spot in the lineup. At least I hope not.

I like this. Maybe it will decrease the amount of times I yell at the 4th line on TV "Hit him FFS!". At least he got physical.

no issues with this, he's a good depth RW that can add some size/physicality.

Now, if he's still our best top RW option, well that's obviously a problem.

Least effective player in the NHL? That's extreme.

I liked Ritchie. I can't remember a single shift he took off. This is a soft and slow team. Ritchie was actually a breath of fresh air in some respects.

Now, the only issue is that we know Darryl is going to play him way too high in the lineup (anything above 4th line). That's not his fault - find better players please Treliving to keep him down on the 4th line.
