Berezan wins.

I don't mind the Berezan vote I just don't see the cup win contribution to be honest. 8 points in 35 games and then traded for MacLellan- seeing as the playoffs is where the Flames always f'ed it up I cant' give a guy too much credit for helping out in the regular season on a stacked team
now I agree he played a nice role in the 86 cup RUN

I voted for Hathaway, who was generally awesome last year.
You guys know that Jokinen only wore 21 for 25 games, right?

No, he wore #21 for the 25 games in 2008-2009, and the 56 games in 2009-2010 before being traded to NYR.
When he signed with us again in the summer, he switched to #13.

Are you sure about that? I always thought he switched to 13 after Cammalleri signed in Montreal.

I'm sure.
Here's his last goal before being traded, Jan 27, 2010:
Traded to NYR February 1, 2010 with Prust for Higgins and Kotalik.

Went with Berezan for the Cup. Olli was close, but he was so not what we hoped. And Ference almost got the click until I remembered his Oilerness.
I think 22 may be the closest one yet. Conroy v Langkow.

Oh man. I shudder at the memory of the trades during Sutter’s tenure end. Wasn’t this the one that the trade was reported, but could not be consummated, since the team was playing?

Wow this is a tough one! Toss-up between Berezan, Ference, Chaisson, Cassels, and Jokinen. I chose Ference. But anyone of those I list could be it.

Pet theory, this is as good a place as any:
Trading ference proved costly for the flames because he had just signed a contract extension with the flames on september 29th 2006 and was traded February 10th 2007.
IIRC, he negotiated by himself or with minimal representation, took less to keep the group together, took sutter at his word and was gone before the extension kicked in.
Iginla, Regehr and Phaneuf all signed extensions that summer for top dollar with term.
The flames would become the land of the no-trade clause afterwards, and term became the way for the flames to bring down the salary.
It netted Brodie ultimately but that team was about winning now.
One of Sutter's worst moves. Maybe his worst.

It was the day after the Stajan trade and the Flames had to play the Flyers at the Dome that night, but none of the guys from Toronto had made it to Calgary yet.
Sutter asked the Rangers to wait to file the paperwork until after the game so that Jokinen and Prust could play. Despite that, word somehow leaked to the media in New York that the trade was finalized and it was widely reported prior to the game.
The Flyers won 3-0 in what I remember was an absolutely awful performance by the Flames.

Either way, Ference is dead to me.

If Ference hadn't gone to the Oilers for so long he would have been an easy choice for me, but being a long time integral piece of that team just rules him out in my eyes. Loved him on the Flames, but he tarnished those memories.
