Amazing deal for the Leafs. They didn’t have to give up a ton to get what they desperately needed.

I'm amazed how many think its a good deal for the leafs. To me , 2 3rd round picks for a 4th liner and a 28 year old back-up with not that much experience seems a bit high.

Leafs have a group that is clearly in their window now. The entire d is going to have to be rebuilt next season with a tight cap situation.

They also, inspite of being in their window, have a middle of the pack (or better) prospect pool, not to mention they have proven capable of finding and signing good euro players.

This is the time they can use their draft pick currency to improve the holes they have at the edge of the roster. They have filled the backup and depth physical/heavy forward gaps. I am sure that they will try to pick up another d before all is said and done. Will it be enough to see them make noise in a ultra competitive eastern conference? Who knows, personally I doubt it. But I think leaf fans here in Toronto needed to see an acknowledgement and action on holes that have been called out with the roster since the season started.

I'm not debating that it made the leafs better, it certainly did. I'm debating that they paid a high price. IF back-up goalies and 4th line players are costing 3rd round picks, then what is a true top 6 forward going for?

What is so amazing about giving up multiple 3rd round picks for a backup goaltender?

To be fair, he'll probably be their starter for the next few weeks.

It addresses an issue they have not been able to solve all season to date, and one to which amplified exponentially with Anderssen getting hurt.

The Leafs aren’t yelling “start the car” while fleeing IKEA on foot, but it seems they made out fairly well here with respect to possibly solving a glaring problem.

I think Clifford is an underrated add also. Cup winner who brings elements the leafs very much lacked.

I don't get the media love for the deal. It addresses the Leafs need for a backup, sure they win in that regard, while LA gets a serviceable skilled hard worker, but to make it out like this solves everything is a bit silly. They had a need for a backup, addressed it at a decent cost, end of story. C'mon Craig Button, put it in context. They still have major defence problems which probably aren't going to be addressed by the deadline.

Now that Clifford is in Toronto, who will fight Doughty's battles?

Huh. Leafs had a couple of needs and they make a trade during the season to address those needs. What kind of sorcery is this?

This is exactly it, they had to pay a bit more to get a serviceable goalie under a decent contract to help save this season. They have 28 games left and need to right the ship pretty quickly. It has been pretty clear they had no confidence in their backup prior to the trade. Depending on how long they project Anderson to be gone, they weren't in a position to sit on it while currently sitting outside the playoffs with all the teams ahead of them holding games in hand.

Yeah but it's not like Campbell is a proven goaltender that has a track record of success. He's not exactly been great this season himself. I don't have any issue with the trade as Hutchinson wasn't getting the job done but calling it an amazing trade is way over the top.

I believe dubas has made 10 in-season trades in the last 1.5 years.

Despite all those trades their success hasn't been any better than the Flames really. They can't get out of the first round and they are in a similar situation to the Flames this season in that they are going to have to fight tooth and nail to make the playoffs.

Uhm, well, he's been the gm for 1.5 years at this point not 5.5.

Looked into Trevor Moore a little bit. He was a standout in NCAA, and just about a point per game player. In his time in Toronto, he was put in an unfamiliar role, but was starting to get more ice time with the Marlies, and doing a bit better in his second pro year.

He could end up a decent middle six winger, slotted better on a weak LA club, to take advantage of what he does well.

It will be interesting to see if he wasn't just a throw in, but someone identified as being misutilized.
