I'm not a Zucc fan but wouldve happily paid that price for him.

It's a major leap to think they even make up 6 points to finish 3rd, let alone 11 to finish 2nd - just by adding Zuccarello. I find your analysis....odd.

It is quite possible that one condition negates the other condition. No idea if that's possible or not but it would make sense that if one pick becomes a first, the other pick remains the same regardless of what happens.

This feels like a bargain for Dallas.

Not if it ends up two firsts. I do like the conditional set-up though.

2nd and 3rd exactly as rumored. If we had our second we might have done it.

Hayes is a better acquisition.

Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie
Rangers retaining approximately 25 pct of Zuccarello cap hit/ salary.

edit:

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Rangers are retaining 30 percent of Zuccarello salary in trade with Dallas

Was Treliving the first to negotiate a conditional pick depending on whether a team wins two rounds in the playoffs (ie the Kris Russell trade)? Seems like it happens frequently nowadays...

Ronning played on some pretty good teams (saw the playoffs in the 12 of his 19 seasons), including the SCFs in 1993/1994 (made it past the 1st round at least 5 times). He was a heck of a player IMO.

They acquired Mats Zuccarello not Panarin. The guy has as many goals as Jankowski. Stars are a bad matchup for the Flames not because of Zuccarello but because Benn and Seguin own the Flames.

Tad bit disingenuous.

Last six seasons
442 GP
102 goals
216 assists

On average that's a 19 goal, 40 assist player. Who in New York regularily saw first D pairs just like Panarin does in CBJ.

Being added to a team that already has a Radulov / Seguin / Benn trio and is one of the better defensive teams in the league with strong goaltending. He's probably going to see easier competition at the very least.

That trade makes a lot more sense for Dallas than for us based off the conditions. Dallas isn’t supposed to make it past two rounds, so the cost of it becoming a 1st is more worth it if it works out well enough for them to do that.

Calgary on the other hand should already be strong enough to make it past the 2nd round so it wouldn’t be nearly as justified.

The Flames version of these picks would not be as valuable as those of Dallas.

Same here. I'm pretty happy with the team as it exists today.

He didn’t say anything about finishing second, and Dallas is already in the #1 WC. I think this trade makes it most likely that they stay there.

It's not a conditional second and a conditional third, it's two conditional firsts.
