So I totally get that you think that we, as vegans, are preposterous and sanctimonious, etc, etc. I also get that you are not animal lovers - you know, because you eat them. Perhaps dog or cat lovers but some of you on here have said you would like to eat them too. But - have you ever - for just one minute - as a human being - who, hopefully, also cares about other human beings - given a fleeting thought for the people that have to work in slaughter houses so you can keep eating meat?

That's some awesome self-parody right there. Hilarious.

I don’t care what other people eat. I don’t care how many calories other people eat each day. I don’t care what utensils they use to eat their food. I care about all of these things for myself, but I don’t try and push my eating habits on people unsolicited, and I would hope others give me the same respect because it has very little effect on anyone else what you have for dinner.
The only value I will push on other people is don’t bring fish to work and microwave it for lunch. That’s disgusting. Everyone in the office hates you.

Vegans are still more annoying than any of those, if only because they're far more prevalent in Canada. I don't have to traverse a gauntlet of obnoxious KKK slogans scrawled all over the sidewalks when walking to downtown.

If pigs are so smart, how come 66.67% of them build houses out of unsuitable material?

One of the coolest things I've ever seen in action was called the "silver bullet". Basically a big set of rollers that strips a cows hide in under a second and all in 1 piece.
People in slaughterhouses don't necessarily hate their job, seems like you're projecting your feelings into the workers at these places.

Good point. If we stop eating meat, think of all the people that will be out of a job. I should probably increase my meat intake. Think of the workers.

They applied for those jobs, and are being paid for their time. This is the oddest take I've ever heard, and I feel like maybe I've missed the joke?

So I personally know many immigrant workers and the ONLY way they could get into Canada was by the Temporary Foreign Workers Program and the job they were offered was to work for Cargill (High River). They are mostly ashamed of/saddened by what they have to do to hopefully give their families a better life here in Canada. They aren't taking jobs from Canadians as Canadians do not want to/will not work in slaughter houses hence the need for immigrant workers.

So we should close the plants and send them home? Do you think that’s what they want?

No. I would think they would prefer any OTHER job here. A job they could take some pride in. A job that doesn't give them PTSD. Just think about it for a minute? Really think about it. Some have returned to Afghanistan as they couldn't handle it. Very sad that the slaughter house was the only option they were given.

This is so very strange. Cargill hires SAIT grads that I know personally and I've worked there as a sub contractor. Maybe it's my view on it, but it's an honest job, hard work and a necessary function for our society. There's plenty of other TFW options for work as well if those you know aren't satisfied with their work. I haven't spent much time looking into it but certain restaurants hire TFWs as well.

You aren't going to be able to support a family on minimum pay as a restaurant worker - and their English is, on occasion, not up to conversational standards.

To reference another off-topic thread, you can add "people who rejoice when criminals are killed and bemoan the fact that they get legal rights at all" to that list.
It's a different category though, because in all of those cases, there's something fundamentally wrong with the underlying ideology. I'm very much opposed in principle to the advancement of the view that the white race is superior to others, or that people should have unfettered access to firearms, or that vaccines cause autism, because those ideologies hurt people.
In contrast, I really have no bone to pick with a moral philosophy that says animals are sentient beings and can suffer, so it's immoral to participate in that suffering by consuming the product of the industry that's responsible. It's like an environmentalist who drives an electric car to carpool with coworkers while living in a tiny off-grid house powered by solar, never flies anywhere and only eats local produce. You can't fault someone for walking the walk, and the moral viewpoint is pretty defensible.
The problem is that a bunch of these people are mostly concerned with demonstrating their moral purity to others more than they are in the cause itself. If this type of vegan had a brain and a real commitment to their end goal, they'd learn how to convince people reasonably instead of engaging in moral grandstanding.
And with that, I shall go back to drinking my bacon ceasar, and wait for my braised lamb gnocchi and bison short ribs. Points if you can guess where I'm having lunch!

Yeah, that's actually pretty offensive to people who actually suffer from PTSD. Or mental illness generally.
