Plus they’ve managed to hang onto their top 3 picks in the next two entry drafts unlike another team which shall remain nameless.

Steve Yzerman is a wizard on another level.
The average age of their top 10 scorers is 24.6 years old.
Sergachev has more points and goals than Drouin, and he's a rookie AND a Dman FFS.
Their number one goalie (2.11 GAA, 0.934 sv%) is 23.
They've got $4 million of cap space, $11 million at the deadline.
They've got about 17 players signed next year with roughly $16 million of space to fill out the rest.
They've got a strong prospect pool (as noted above) and all their draft picks plus potentially an extra 2nd from Washington.
Oh yeah, and they're 1st overall in the NHL right now.
Sorry for the off topic post.

Yup, tbl are definitely in the discussion for next NHL dynasty.
It's crazy that almost 15 years ago, the flames and lightning went to game 7 in the cup finals, and where they evolved to now....
Kind of sad actually.

Important part of the difference is the way the two teams have used vs traded their early round draft picks. Skill at scouting may be another big factor in the difference.

Since 2004, Tampa hasn't won a single cup. They've only been a finalist once.
They've either missed the playoffs or been knocked out in the first round 9 times in 12 years.
They may be marginally better than the Flames over the 12 years, but they are hardly a dynasty or a team that should make Flames fans sad when they see their success.

Not to mention drafting Stamkos 1st overall, Hedman 2nd overall, Drouin 3rd overall. When they suck they really suck and make sure they get top picks.
They have to win something before they can be considered a dynasty.

Its easier to suck in the deep south where nobody really cares that much about hockey.
and Dynasty? trying winning one first...exactly right

Meh, they're one of the few, if not only teams where the question isn't if but when.

There are lots of teams who seem pointed in the direction of greatness who never get there.

Remember when Yzerman was being vilified around here as an obstinate, old-school GM who was out of touch with how the NHL works today? When playing hardball with Drouin was seen as proof that he didn't know what he was doing?
No, they haven't won any Cups yet. But if you wanted to buy an NHL franchise and move it to your city, is there a team you'd pick before the Lightning?

Hockey Canada has recalled Josh Mahura (ANA). Fabbro is injured and is questionable for the tournament.

In today's NHL, that's the strategy to win. Push hard to be in a position to succeed, but in those years when you're going to suck, suck hard so you can bounce back with top-end talent. The worst thing you can be in the NHL these days is consistently average...it's how you end up wallowing in purgatory like the Flames have for a couple of decades.

All this talk about the Lightning having 4 prospects in the tournament... don't the Flames have 5 or 6?
Dube, Valimaki, Fox, Tuulola, Lindstrom (potentlally), and Ruzicka
I am not seeing a problem here

TBL has 4 prospects on Team Canada alone. Which, let's be honest, is probably the most impressive team to have prospects on as the internal competition is much deeper than any other country.

True. But do Valimaki or Fox make TC? I think so.

Sweden has an exhibition game against Denmark today.
Linus Lindstrom is scratched but given that other scratches are G Filip Gustavsson (2016 2nd rounder PIT), D Rasmus Dahlin (projected 1st OA pick 2018), and Ellias Petterson (2017 1st rounder VAN) that could be a very good sign.
Those 3 players are expected to have big roles with the Swedish team.

Dube still in a no-contact jersey at Canada's first practice since the final cuts were made.
Mark Masters @markhmasters
now
 practice lines
Dube-Steel-Kyrou
Katchouk-Thomas-Raddysh
Gadjovich-McLeod-Steenbergen/Batherson
Comtois-Howden-Formenton
Clague-Makar
Bean
Mete-Timmins
Foote
Hart
Point
Absent: Fabbro, Mahura
Based on those lines, looks like Dube will be the 1st line LW
