I do try to condition every few days or so and try to get it as dry as possible. It seems impossible dry it completely around the chin, its way too thick there.

It never really did get itchy when I started which was nice, maybe for a week but that's about it.

What do you guys use for an adjustable trimmer? I recall seeing ads a while back about a small battery powered one that had an adjustable (1mm increments) guard but forget what it was. What do you guys use?

Also, when trimming for length, with the grain or against? Really not sure what's the right way to do that.
I'd go to a barber (proper barber) to get a clean up. I find it too hard to do myself and not mess things up.

Currently beardly status:

I've found that abstaining from shaving for a while usually does the trick.

I think you're looking for this:

https://www.usa.philips.com/c-p/QT40...er-series-7000

I have one of those. It works extremely well if you want to handle all your beard trimming at home, and helps with ease of cleanup. However, it's not really necessary if you're getting your hair cut every 3 weeks or so, like most people. Just get a beard trim at the same time. Other than that, you just need to shorten up the 'stache and deal with the occasional unruly bit of beard, and just about every trimmer can handle that duty.

Lookin good my friend! Good suggestion as well. I actually have a barber around the corner from my house, didn't even think about that as an option. I'll wander over there and see what he can do for me.

Would still like a capable trimmer though, handy things to have. The one Corsi pointed out above looks solid.

G-D, trimming the bottom jaw line is the hardest part of having a beard. Heaven forbid you accidentally go a touch high on one spot and have to go higher everywhere to even it out.

Needs to be a manual on how to do it right without looking like this guy after every third trim

Maybe it's because I'm old and have no idea what the kids are up to these days but in my entire life I've only known one person (besides you, obviously) that gets their hair cut every three weeks. He was a barber's son whose father basically thought that the hair styles his children had were walking advertisements for his barber shop. I don't think every three weeks is typical.

Never trim up to the jawline. The bottom of your beard should be where your chin meets your neck. When you look down, mark where the crease occurs, and never trim any higher!

With your head up, two finger widths from the top of your Adams apple is the general rule.

That gives me just about the same spot, personally.

Basically avoid 'The George Lucas' cut.
