I see objectivity is seen as negativity.
I don't remember the forum rules stating I must follow the CP masses thought - and I have yet to be warned or anything.
This was not meant to be a negative thread, but as with many things, its up to the user to make of it what he/she will.

3 years time we have a few contracts expiring and will have more than enough t4 prospects coming through the system in Fox, Valimaki, Kjlinington, Andersson, and Kulak is a great #5/6 guy. I personally do not see us keeping stone very long, and as much as it will hurt wouldn't mind shipping out Gio in three years to make room for Prospects. I would like to get something from Gio (I do not know what his contract is like NTC wise) and Juuso is Gio 2.O and he should be in the A next year and can spend a year and a half there then start jumping up to big leagues in time to ship out Gio. I am confident Andersson will make the squad and won't bust out, Valimaki just seems like he will work out, however, it is Kjilington and Fox that worry me, I think that both have huge potential but it is either a bust or boom type thing. How great Kjilington has been in the A this year is a fantastic sign. And Fox being small, I still think he will turn out amazing, but I do not have as much confidence that he will turn out. However, Brodie and Hamilton are on this team long-term, but it brings the question, who are these prospects replacing and do we deal anything? I'd like to see Stone shipped out at the Draft for (No idea what we could get), Gio shipped out in three years for something really nice. Which leaves us with 4/6 we have now. 2 spots for 4 really good prospects, which two move up or do they force us to ship Hamonic as well or let him walk?
What do you think the t4 would like in 3 years?
Dougie/Valimaki
Brodie/Anderson
Killington/Fox
Hamonic/Kulak
Who stays and who goes?

I agree with your post, and I agree with shipping Gio out at some point. But there are so many factors;
1. It depends when his play starts to fall off. He's currently 34 and has a contract running until he's 38(?), at $6.75m. I can't see many people wanting to take a 37-year-old on that amount of money, considering it'll be more likely than not that his play has regressed.
2. So that makes you think that it'd have to be within the next year or 2; however, he has a NTC for this season and the 2 after. Makes it all the more difficult.
3. Suppose his play doesn't fall off a cliff; can't see the Flames wanting to ship out their Captain purely to acquire some draft picks. Doesn't look good, and we've shown to be a relatively classy organisation.
4. He's playing lights-out at the minute, and doesn't look like stopping any time soon.
In conclusion, I think we're 'stuck' with Gio until at least the last year of his contract, where it'll be easier to move him as he's got a Modified NTC, with us retaining some salary, too.

fair enough, I would like to be classy and if there is no chance in the next few years we should stick with him, hopefully, he stays at his contracts level, however, I do not know why his contract is so long, couple years too long. What do you suppose we do with our surplus of really strong looking D prospects? Do we ship out someone else? What will the D look like in 3 years?

I think there was a long period of darkness for sure. But I also think it has changed drastically. And I think there are two waves to consider:
1) As ricardodw sort of stated, the Flames used 2 firsts, 4 2nds(?) and a 4th to acquire:
Giordano, Brodie, Hamilton and Hamonic
IMO, that is pretty damn fantastic.
2) They now have:
Kulak, Kylington, Andersson, Fox and Valimaki in the system (and don't forget Hickey as a drafted talent).
They won't all make the NHL, but I think there is a very good chance that there are at least 2 top 4 guys in that group.
All in all, what happened in the 90s is pretty irrelevant at this point.
