Once he says on the ice he meant to hurt him it doesn't matter if its an accident. I agree I think it was accidental. But once he said it wasn't then he had to suffer the consequences that the Oilers are saying if you hit their star player. McDavid challenged him to fight multiple times their first game after and he declined.
I know some have said he denied it, but when first asked he said "I believe what happens on the ice stays on the ice" which is a confirmation. Then he denied it.
I also give Manning huge credit for standing up for himself and flapping back at the bench and stuff. I still don't believe he meant to do it but that is a guy who will stand up for himself. And thatch commendable.
