They say Ed Wood was a head of his time, but during his tenure he made some of the biggest production flops in the history of cinemas.
I don't want someone ahead of their time. I want someone ahead in their time. And the fact that the Flames are one of the worst teams in the league is more telling than any praise Torts can provide.
Until I hear the same praise from Mike Babcock, Joel Quenneville, or Daryl Sutter, I couldn't care. Torts is one more bad season away from being an old memory in this league. It's like Treliving getting praise from Mike Millbury

While some of these issues were here pre-Gulutzan, he was brought in to correct them to which he still may need time but the lack of discipline is new.

That happens when you are actually trying to actively take the puck away from the opponent instead of waiting for them to shoot it into your shin pads so you can skate the other way and make a stretch pass. They just need to learn how to do it without taking a penalty.

This article claims that Babcock spoke highly of him
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/f...lutzan-hiring/
I believe I heard that those Saskatchewan guys (Babcock, Gully, Desjardins) speak regularly.

I hear a lot of "hockey people", who know about the game than I do, praising him.
The last few games have looked a lot better, so I'm hoping he's starting to come into his own here, and will start to look like a really great coach.

The anti-Gulutzan crowd reminds me of late 2000s Oilers fans. year after year, they refused to believe that their GM (Lowe) and/or their players sucked and instead kept blaming it on the coach (MacTavish).
We laughed at them.

Sure, we laughed at them, because they're the oilers. But they were right about MacTavish being a bad coach.
I haven't fully given up on Gulutzan, but I'm getting close. His entire offensive plan seems to be: take a low percentage shot from the perimeter and try for a deflection. Except on the PP, where they don't even try that, they just pass it around the perimeter until they lose possession.

You can. And you will be resented for it.

Disagree. They're special teams were awful last year as well, does everyone forget? And Elliott has looked just as bad as Hiller has. This is the same crappy team from last year.

The PP this year is way worse then last season, it's in the single digits (8.4%).

Revisionist history. The team surely had a bad start. PP in the second half was improved. Offence on the whole was not the problem.
Agreed on defence though.

I was very outspoken in my dislike for Gulutzan, but I will agree, the team's 5 on 5 play has markedly improved as the players get more comfortable within his system. Hiring a new guy now, just to start from scratch is the wrong call at this point. But he still makes a lot of questionable decisions. Why is one of our top point producers getting no PP time? Why does Wideman get scratched or plays 20+ minutes, not 3rd pairing minutes? Why are Vey and Chiasson on the PP? Why hasn't he taken over or reassigned the special teams coaching assignments? Not exactly inspiring a lot of confidence there.

I keep seeing this comment. Do people not realize that the NHL installed monitors in the bench floors this off-season? Every coach is looking down after a goal is scored, because they're watching replays. They need to know if they're going to challenge the call, among many other things.
We need to get used to coaches looking down. That monitor has become a tool that they're constantly using through-out the game.
