Yakupov for a 3rd is market value. EDM had him dealt to NJD for Eric Gelinas last year, but Devils took a 3rd elsewhere instead.

A big factor you're missing is they should have been worrying about their blue-line at that time. Whether it be via trade or trade down.
It was a horrible pick for them under and circumstances, and one mistake in a long line of many in (poorly) building that awful team.

Zach who. Is he a pizza delivery guy. 3rd round pick is more than I think Yakupov is worth. I was more concerned the Oilers were going to land a solid 3rd pairing D from a team cap strapped, Nope Zach Pochiro.

I don't entirely agree. He was not a unanimous number 1. Leafs had Reily first, Flames had Galch, the Oil themselves had Murray until their owner overrided the choice.
Don't let them off the hook. It was an epically bad choice. And it was then.
