Yeah my gut tells me the Flames are looking for max term whereas they may be expecting the salary cap to increase and want same AAV over shorter term. I am sure it gets done, question for me really is term.

Maybe they are waiting for Gaudreau to finish up his summer classes.

This is not about being worried they are going to sign or not, but I'd hate to see these two players demand to be paid higher than most in similar situations. Let's be honest, if it was that easy they'd be signed.

Why would you be worried signing a top line, 22 year old center and an elite winger to big money? They deserve big money, and they will get it.
You need elite players to win a championship, and elite players need to get paid. Just be happy we aren't paying them $10 million a year.

It is July 4th. There is no urgency right now to get anything done. The agents want to get more for their clients but when there isn't anything to force the sides together (a deadline) it will take longer. I think the worlds is probably the first line real deadline to get something done. This management plays it extremely close to the vest so it wouldn't surprise me if it is done but waiting for both players to be in Calgary for the photo op.

Yikes, this whole "I don't know how rich I am yet" thing is probably really cramping his cred with the ladies on campus...

If only Ferland would turn back into Ferkland again, then maybe we wouldn't.

Isn't he a bonafide millionaire already with his bonuses and such that he got paid?
Surely even after he paid his agent, taxes and escrow he's got a least a million bucks in his checking account.

If Treiliving stops the negotiations then they can accept their qualifying offer and the Flames would be stuck having them. Flames are in no-win situation now, they have to have these super bowl party animals on the payroll this year.

If your two options for signing Gaudreau is 8 yrs x $7.5 (Tarasenko deal) or 6 yrs x $6.0 (Forsberg deal) which deal would you sign?

Tarasenko deal, easily. But I project Gaudreau to develop into a top 5 player in the world.

I wouldn't be shocked for both deals to get done during Stampede if they both plan to be back in town

It has to be that the Flames want them both in town to get this done??
I would hope both the Flames and G&M are wanting to work towards long term 6-7m per contracts. We have heard G&M both say they expect to play here for many more years. So that would tell me they likely want long term contracts.
If this has prolonged past July, i think fans have every reason to question just what have the Flames offered or just what are the 2 players requesting.
At this point for me anyways it is not so much being concerned but more being impatient. Big difference.
A month from now I would be concerned it might be only 3 year deals instead of 6-7 year deals.

If you give them both more term, than the AAV should be lower shouldn't it? Like 7 years @ 6m.

I wonder what the holdup is. Not that I'm worried they won't sign they definitely will but I'm actually curious what they're negotiating. Could it be term? Money? NMC? If I had to guess I think they both want similar contracts and the Flames aren't willing to pay Monahan what Gaudreau deserves.
Gaudreau to me is a $7.5 million dollar player while Monahan is a $6 million dollar player.
Hopefully they meet in the middle and both sign for 8 years $6.75 million a year.

This is the term and number I keep coming back to, 8 years and $6,7500,000 just seems right.
