So does Molson Canadian pull the rooftop ice rink ad from tv containing Ray Bourque? Pretty bad optics if you ask me

As a pub owner I can safely say drinking and driving is not a rare occurrence, I have personally paid for some patrons to get home safe but I or the staff can't catch them all. fact is a big percentage of people make bad decisions under the influence of alcohol, the only way to stop drinking and driving is to ban alcohol or have a blow system in every car.
Mommy's basement? Im a god damn sailor! Drinking is what we do.

I dont drink and drive.

In fact, quite often I DD for my buddies. And if I'm not getting wrecked in foreign ports, I drive the ships vehicle making sure my wingers get back to the boat safely.

It's called looking out for one another and being a responsible adult.

Driving while drunk is seriously one of the stupidest things anyone can do.

$20-$40 cost is much better than killing someone else.

And if you can't afford the cab ride, you probably can't afford to be drinking.

This is a culture thing. Unfortunately, like some of the stupid attitudes in this thread, it has become the norm of many idiots in this society.

If it only affected the driver, I would say drive drunk all you want and hopefully you kill yourself while doing it.

F****ng idiots..

Pretty ignorant of you to state that the people who choose to be responsible and decide to not put their life or other lives at risk are just nerds who live in mommy's basement.

As someone who has lost a family member to a drunk driver, statements like yours really piss me off.
Sorry you took it personally, you missed the part where I said "probably"

Yikes this one will get expensive real quick for him. Boggles my mind when these rich people can't just call a driver. 50 dollar can ride is going to end up costing him

IMHO using the word "probably" doesn't make it ok to call people who drink responsibly nerdy, living in mommy's basement who does not have a life.

If I'm a bar owner like you, I would've said I've seen people who drinks unresponsively all the time and I think they are all stupid idiotic morons.

What bs pleading not guilty. If he was remorseful he would admit what he did and suffer the consequences. That picture of him with the article, that looks like the face of a heavy drinker.

It's far less of a norm than it was 30 years ago. In fact, it's almost universally regarded as terrible behaviour. I don't know what more we can do to make drinking and driving less socially acceptable.

According to an article in the Boston Globe:

"Bourque was involved in prior accidents in 1991 in Boston, 1996 in Peabody, and 2013 in Danvers, according to a copy of his driving record provided by the Registry. Details of those accidents were not available on Monday night."

Could be they were fender-benders, but... maybe not.

Man, .249 is absolutely ripped no matter what kind of a boozehound you are or how big you are.

Seems crazy to me that he pleaded not guilty. I can't imagine he'd get jail time for this (whether he should or not is another question) and all this not guilty can do is keep it in the news for longer and further damage his reputation, which as far as I know was pretty golden up until now.

We definitely won't see those Molson commercials again.

There's lots of reasons to plead not guilty. I'm sure his lawyer told him to.

Well yeah, I get that, but for a guy in his position it seems like it will just drag this episode out. His reputation as a good guy is (I'd think) his biggest asset.

If he had "one too many" and got pulled over with no incident, then sure you fight it, but crashing into a van full of teenagers and being so obviously loaded, it just seems like something he'd rather get over with and express his regrets and hope it blows over.

I will put in my 2 cents be it right or wrong. But I understand the high and mighty comments. Yes many people can take that route saying they are better than others and will never drink and drive because they know better. But I know and have in my family alcoholics who can't control themselves. It's a disease. And they drink because they are addicted and it is a problem. So they will drink and lose control and do what they will. And it's a lot easier said and done to get them help that they dont want.

I think if anything he's old enough to think it's fine. Pretty common a few decades ago.

Agreed on the other points. Idiot, and everyone involved got lucky. 0.249% isn't just a few beers over/bad judgement call. That's frickin' hammered

Before they drink, they should realize they have a terrible problem (which I'm sure they do) and take measures that don't put them in positions that driving is an option when they lose the battle with their addiction (like walk to the bar).

Can we cancel Raymond's contract for this DUI? Kings style.

I do understand that you mean well but maybe do not know the extent of what alcoholism does.

I worked with a fellow a few years ago who was an alcoholic and would drink excessively. One time he went on lunch and came back wasted. He drove his car and could barely walk into the store. We had to call a cab. This is an example of the issue. There is no preparing and thinking ahead with this disease.

If he played for the Kings right now most of you on here would be claiming the Kings spiked his Gatorade then called the cops after he left practice just so they could rid themselves of his contract.
