More than you want to pay as a fan of the Flames or actually too much? I strongly disagree that it's too much, it's actually very fair.

to put names to it: we had our CPHL draft today, and the picks at 6, 35, 54 and 56 were Alexander Nylander, Dennis Cholowski, Jack Kopacka and Filip Gustavsson. Would you rather have Puljujarvi or Nylander, Cholowski, Kopacka and Gustavsson? To me it's an easy choice.
|
Just because TO wanted it doesn't make it reasonable...
It's a balancing act for sure... 3OA and a goalie.

Organizationally, we've got some promising prospects inbetween the pipes. We have no one at RW, let alone top line RW.
Puljujarvi is the perfect storm for the Flames. He would fill a organizational need perfectly. RW, shoots right, has size, plays with a relentless work ethic.
If 6, 35, 54, 56 gets it done - you don't hesitate. You can find a goalie another way (move the 2017 2nd if needed - or, for the right goalie - use the 2017 1st). Or, if you fail to acquire a goalie, go get Reimer and Hutton to fill the position until we see what Gillies/McDonald are.
Puljujarvi is the perfect fit.

Could you imagine being Todd Button and staff, if picks 6, 35, 54, and 56 were all moved for 3. This especially after what happened last year with the Hamilton trade.

I suppose though, it's Button & staff's call whether or not Treliving should pull the trigger on trades like these.

It would suck for him and his staff, but they'd still have 6 more picks in rounds 3-7 believe it or not. They'd still be busy.

It would be funny if the Flames pulled an Islanders and traded all the picks for #3 and the scouting staff would have nothing to do.

don't worry, beside a high 3rd the scouts would still have the 4th rounder, which is where they really shine.

Columbus:
2016 6th Overall
2016 35th Overall
2016 56th Overall
Joe Colborne
Calgary:
2016 3rd Overall
Scott Hartnell
Not sure if that is enough, I would add the 54th overall if need be.

Having to give up all 3 2nds would be painful. So its probably a fair trade.
They want out of the Hartnell contract (and we could use his grit). How about something like:
#3 + Hartnell for #6 + Colborne + 2nd
|
You call kelkalinen or whatever and then call BT AND MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!! IMO this works well for both teams.

I absolutely believe this.
Treliving is a big game hunter and Puljujarvi definitely fits the bill.
Not sold on Tkachuk, would much rather have Dubois in the next tier myself but i have no doubt Treliving is working the phones on both #3 and #4.
Worst case scenario in this draft is the Jackets and Oilers both keep their picks but BJ's pass on Puljujarvi and the Oilers walk away with him.

Can't see this happening. If they aren't sold on Puljujarvi and therefore aren't taking him, then taking what Calgary would offer them would be far more valuable than simply drafting Tkachuk or Dubois.

I think it is too much. There is a reason these sorts of deals so rarely happen: sellers over-value their pick, and buyers balk at the asking price.

Nylander/Brown + 3 2nds

I'm a fan of this idea, but I'm a fan of Hartnell. Would be nice, if this scenario were to happen, to somehow have Hartnell's NMC wiped out as a result of the trade. Apparently that happened to Tyler Myers NMC when he was traded.

If the rumor is true and they really want Brown, they may not want to risk him still being there at #6 and might just take him at #3, it's certainly not out of the question.

Here's another thought for Columbus:
Trade the #3 to Calgary for the 6th and 3 2nds (or whatever).
And trade Jones to Edmonton for RNH and the 4th
Draft Dubois (or Brown) 4th and a defenseman 6th, to go along with RNH, the 33rd, 35th, 54th and 56th picks.

Edmonton takes Tkachuk (very likely IMO).
Van either takes Dubois or Brown (probably Dubois)
Columbus gets Brown or Dubois plus 3 2nds.

Taking this a step further, they then trade the 33rd and 56th for a late 1st
Then trade the 35th and 54th for another late first
They come away from the draft with the 4th, the 6th, RNH and 2 late 1sts
and it costs them Jones
