Nope, more surprised that he lasted the year after the guy who hired him was let go, let one two more under a new GM.

Timing in the offseason was odd, but clearly someone is or is going to come available that wasn't expected to be.

Probably saves the Flames another season of treading water, at best, in the end when all is said and done.

I agree that a funny thing happened on the way to the zoo. And if treliving didn't see Hartley in his future then there is no point keeping him.

Wasting a year of winning might be a stretch though. If the roster doesn't improve from goal out they aren't winning anything, no matter who coaches. Burkes hints at more ice time for bollig and engelland types won't make it easier either.
