He missed a bunch of practices back in January, but never missed a game, so he must have been playing through something.

What's really remarkable about hitting 20 goals is that he scored his 6th goal of the season on February 6 (against Vancouver, of course). 5 goals in the first 4 months of the season, 16 in the last 2.

A good accomplishment but his defensive game is the key to his success. He's very streaky offensively (remember the meeting with his old coach a few years back that lead to an offensive explosion) so being able to contribute when he's cold is key.

I sure hope he gets on the World Cup roster for Sweden.

He's earned it.

With 6 of those goals coming in 2 games.

I have liked Backlund right from his Kelowna days. It is good to see him having scoring success. He has become a reliable 2 way forward. He is sitting at +9 in a year when most flames players are significantly in the negative.

Good on him for getting 21 goals. Let's hope he keeps it up for next year!

Same. Awesome that he got a hat trick!

There is no denying this guy is a solid hockey player and should have a long healthy career.

My one regret in life is buying a Baertshi jersey instead of Backlund when i bought an authentic after the lockout.

I actually kind of think give or take some experience, this is the Backlund we have had for awhile. It's just that for the first time in forever he's been relatively healthy for the whole season.

He's not an elite player that can just step in and play at a high level, even some of the best players need time to get into game shape. He's always been a player that needs momentum and confidence to play well. It's hard to get any rhythm when you miss large parts or training camps and the regular season.

A healthy Backlund is a very big part of this team.

Good to see him finish strong like this. I hope that guys like him and Colborne can continue this play into October as this is a team that needs to get off to a good start next season.

I've chirped Backlund all year long and it seems to be working. Will be continuing next year as well. Soft as butter no talent poor shot.

Seems like he's had an extra speed burst the past two games. Last night he caught the Canucks flat footed on the PP in the first period and walked right in but missed the goal. Against the Oilers he just took off on that short handed break away. Maybe it's the awful competition making him look quicker, but I have noticed recently that he's been moving quicker on the ice. Maybe his mind is at a point where he's confident to play at full speed with the puck.

I think the health is key too. In past years he'd get on a roll and than get injured or the Olympic Break would happen and he'd never be able to finish off his hot streak.

I wonder if Where_RUChrisO'Sullivan had him pegged to score 21 in the KHL this year?

I am just not going to buy into all this until all these guys (him and Colborne in particular) show that they can do this when it actually matters, instead of in Oiler time. Great for the fantasy leagues, but completely irrelevant to the Flames' season. Have seen this too often around the league. Let's hope (nay, pray to the baby Jebus) that is what we get from now on.

Yeah, both Colborne and Backlund have been fantastic since the all star break.

But I want to see them keep it up next year before I get too excited

My mistake. I thought he had a hat trick a little while ago. My attention has been terrible lately.
