Why?
Since he got healthy, Smid is consistently one of the best 4 defencemen on this team. Too bad his ice time doesn't match his play. I'd love to see him paired with Hamilton.

I don't mind Smid but he isn't a top four guy. We'd be exposed quite a bit if he had to play bigger minutes on a regular basis. Enjoying the quality play at the moment but it's always been fleeting with Smid. It would be like slotting Engellend as a top four after his solid play down the stretch last season.

Smid has been a top pairing guy in the past though, where Engelland has spent his entire career as a bottom pairing defenceman. Smid can handle more minutes, especially if he's paired with a good puck mover.

I've been so impressed with what I've seen from Smid this year.
I thought that guy was finished, but he's been great this year playing controlled minutes.
But yes, he doesn't belong anywhere near a regular top 4 spot and I'd much prefer to play Engeland on the first pairing than Smid on the second for any stretch of time.

Comcast is awful. Full outage for 6 or 7 hours tonight. No cable, no internet, no problem. Watching tonight on game center on my phone racking up crazy data usage.
