Halfway through December they had a 98% chance to make the playoffs. They've tanked their way down to a 28% chance as of today. That is Toronto Maple Leafs 18-wheeler falling off a cliff level of suck.

As little as I care about the "Canada's team" bullcrap, I am even less of a fan of the national media's annual circlejerk about it. I hope the Habs pull into the playoffs just to spare us a summer of dramatic handwringing about how "broken" hockey in Canada is.

^ I posted this in the OOT last night, but on the date you mention here, the Panthers trailed the Canadiens by a whopping 15 points. Since then they have had a 26 point difference and the Panthers now lead the Canadiens by 11 points. In. Sane.

You know it's bad when Toronto gains 11 points on you.

I still don't think Carolina is a good team at all nor should they even be a borderline playoff calibre team. They should come crashing back to earth pretty hard at some point, but wow, that's quite impressive. Kudos to them for that.

Could say the exact same thing for Colorado.

There is a lot of sun belt at the top of that list. And a lot of snow belt near the bottom.

Also, the Rangers, wtf - the opposite of FLA, CAR and COL

Well I don't care what people say. If the Flames miss, I am rooting for Iggy to get his Cup.

I just hope if the Avs make the Final, it's not against the Caps. I want Ovi to get a Cup too

He's not, though. The Canadiens were never as good as they were playing in October and November, and were bound to slide back even with a fully healthy price. This is yet another instance in a well worn pattern of teams that start incredibly well, only to fade back to the pack over the passage of the season. Only in this case, without the heroics of Price Montreal has plummeted rather precipitously.

Shouldn't title be «Montréal n'est pas bon»......Just in case Robert (Bob) or Martin (Marty) read it?

Well yeah even with Price they would hit the skids once or twice over an 82 game season as it happens even to good teams but we are talking major extremes here. Without Price they aren't just bad, they are putrid.

Well that #3 pick isn't turning-out for them.,

I've said it for like the past 5 years. Montreal is highly overrated. In fact, they're just plain no good. The man between the pipes has been disguising a gargoyle of a team there. Plus there's the eastern conference factor.
