That's about $15m in wasted cap space. And only one of those contracts is expiring this summer.

Not good.
I agree that there are too many highly paid players on the bottom two lines, but that's an issue with the roster itself, not the line-up. The coach shouldn't be placing players based on their salary, especially when the best forwards on the team are on cheap deals.

On the other hand, the Flames have enough good players that they can roll 4 decent lines. I like the Bouma-Stajan-Jones line and don't consider it a weak line. Bouma and Stajan are also significant penalty killers.

It's surprising that Treliving hasn't been able (or hasn't felt the need) to move one of the bottom pairing defencemen. It seems like teams are always looking for one. As for the forwards, I think Jones, Raymond, Bollig, and Colborne could be replaced by players in the organization without too much of a drop off, but the Flames aren't a ruthless organization that sends veterans down to the minors.

I agree, they are far from being the goats defensively, but there are still tricks they can pickup from Frolik's game. Eventually, I think it will help them improve even further. Right now Ferland looks like a great fit, but I think he is still playing over his head. On the other hand, I can't agree with Frolik stifling their offensive ability more than Ferland. Frolik has proven he can produce in this league, Ferland has only shown flashes. At the end of the day though, it all comes down to chemistry and which player is feeling the puck better throughout the game.
