I would have to think that Winnipeg with an Entsrom+Petan, or Edmonton with Eberle (2M retained) would be far out of reach for Calgary or Vancouver to match.

So if you're looking to replace an employee who works in the IT department, you'd replace them with someone who works in Marketing if they have the same upside?
Sure, if you felt that IT could satisfactorily handle the load without that employee.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Yep. I'm sure Snow would prefer a defenceman so he can straight swap them, but how many teams in the West will be willing to do a direct swap in what is going to be a limited market with only a few viable options. Snow might have to take what he can get, or keep an unhappy player on the roster.
No, Darren Dreger said that Garth Snow wants an "equitable" player in return. Position wasn't mentioned.
If there was a ever a time for the Oilers to ship out one of their first round pick forwards to balance their team this is it.
If you put organizational incompetence aside, this makes soooo much sense for the Oilers, like this is a gift dropping from the heavens, as the ability to acquire a top pairing D man will always be so limited, let alone a top pairing D man on a reasonable contract, let alone a top pairing D man on a reasonable contract that WANTS to go there.
It's so perfect it actually hurts, but fortunately for Flames fans you can never put organizational incompetence aside with the Oilers, so maybe it won't happen. I've got a feeling they'll jump on this with the new guys in charge.

Trouba + Petan would blow anything we offer out of the water (well, anything we are willing to do anyways, which means not moving Bennett, Monahan, Gaudreau, Brodie, Hamilton, or a first round pick).
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Hamonic loves the Isles. This is personal. Wpg, Edmtn, Cgy and Van all preferred. Might expand to other west cities. Tough on Isles....
Strange that Van would be on there, he's listed as being from just outside Wpg. NY is closer than Van is, mind you every team outside of Wpg requires hopping on a plane.

No, because in your analogy an IT worker is different from a Marketing worker. A hockey player is a hockey player.
Would I replace a network administrator with a helpdesk manager? Or a product manager with a marketing research analyst? Beats me, I don't work in IT or Marketing.

I have to agree. This is the planets aligning for them. Calgary has a fairly set back-end, same with Winnipeg, Vancouver doesnt really have much to offer unless they sell the farm.
This is practically gift-wrapped for the Oilers. Like they need more players delivered to them in Gift-Wrap. Makes me sick.

Is Hamonic a shut down defenceman? That's something the Flames need I think. Doubt the asking price is something the Flames don't wanna give up though.

It is the Oilers after all and Snow fleeced Chia on the Reinhart trade. I think Vancouver makes a lot of sense, but not sure what they have for the Isles. Maybe Hamhuis + something
