I think the Hamilton deal messed the chemistry this D core had. How do you sign a 22yr old to be the highest paid guy on the squad and not cause any riffs. Wade Redden comes to mine.

Sport is suck a fickle thing. That "it" factor this team had last year has completely and inexplicably vanished.

We need Brodie. Russell and Hamilton shifting down in the depth chart will do this team wonders. Neither is fit for top line defending and nor is Wideman. Brodie is the missing piece.

If he comes back and we still suck, then there is no hope at all.

I didn't think the Flames played THAT bad...

Just zero finish and always passing instead of shooting. Who passes to the 3rd man back on a 2 on 1?

Man it's going to feel real good when this team finally wins 2-3 in a row.

Remember that time we won a game in 60 minutes?

Yeah me neither. Might have been April or May.

Worst thing for me is how they looked defeated in the first period. This team simply has nothing going on right now. Nothing is working and nobody is playing well. It's as hopeless looking of a bunch as I can remember as there's zero confidence. They didn't think they could win this game and it showed.

LOL your handle is a perfect description for this team right now.

Agreed on the effort, they have been playing better yet are still being blown out.

This. Happened to the Avs as well. There's so many factors that contribute to a successful team.

Withering under the weight of expectations? We know this team isn't this bad. We've all seen it. So much of this game is mental, and they're playing with zero confidence and no joy. Not sure how you fix that, but blowing it up or firing a much loved coach isn't the answer. They need to play through it.

Islanders and Rangers are good teams. Flames had stretches in both games where they carried the play. The scores make it look a little worse than it really was. The second goal went off Russell's stick, and Ortio still almost saved it.
We'll see how they do in Ottawa.

I agree. NYI showed if you shoot the puck things happen. You can see them struggling and over thinking.

Case in point, Bennett had a chance to shoot in the third. Instead he holds onto it and ends up behind the net trying a wraparound.

Not to pick on Bennett, only giving an example of the struggles of doing even the simple plays.

This team isn't one player away from turning things around. Ortio wasn't the fix and while Brodie is a good defenseman he's not going to make the forwards instantly better. It's a team issue and they have to have a breakout game that they can turn into some momentum.

We've lost our mojo since they took the Camry drummer girl commercial off the air.

That Barclay arena sucks. What hockey arena has metal gates along the boards (that block your view)? And everytime the puck was in the corner there was pipes and railings blocking the view.

I heard some stories about how some seats has obstructed views, but even for TV it was pretty brutal

They need a warrior, and a rat.

A warrior that can inflict some serious Ferklandic punishment ala playoffs last year.

And I would like them to get an Ott type agitator to pull good teams off their games, but can play a regular shift.

Ferland when he's on his game, and Sam when he's in a pissy mood.

One is injured and the other is snakebitten, however.

Seems like Hartley already did that after the Edmonton game.

Once you crack the whip and don't get results, it's hard to go back to cracking the whip. You can't punish them into being good

And don't forget Bouma. He was our warrior last year. Missing both of those guys hurts.
