Michael J Fox was arrested Wednesday morning in relation to insider sports betting on DraftKings.
Fox aroused suspicion after achieving a statistically-impossible, perfect record on the site under the username NoChicken.
Spoiler!
Authorities found an unusually worn copy of a sports almanac which was just recently printed and which has markings cataloging winning bets Fox has placed since the late 80’s.

And this is different than other sports betting allowed in Canada? Because it's not run by the government?

The NHL, for instance, is an investor in DraftKings. In July, the company announced a new round of funding worth $300 million. Investors included Fox Sports, the NHL, Major League Soccer and New York sports company Madison Square Garden.
Major League Baseball also has an equity stake in DraftKings and offers daily contests on MLB.com, while the NBA has an exclusive deal with FanDuel.
Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd., the parent company of the Maple Leafs and Raptors, recently signed a landmark four-year sponsorship with DraftKings that pays Canada’s largest private sports company more than $1 million per year.
Yes. My understanding is that it's illegal in Canada but not enforced. So a bunch of casinos have put some money into a study of it's legality and are now lawyering up to try and get that revenue plowed into their own coffers.
I'm sure at some point they'll try and push some propoganda that it needs to be regulated and it's for the overall good of the people, and but let's be honest, we have a special interest group here and everyone can see what is going on.

As part of the lawsuit FanDuel and DraftKings filed against New York seeking to be allowed to continue operating in the state, FanDuel’s information and playing policy was entered into evidence, and it is a doozy. FanDuel employees were required to read and sign the policy, which dates from before they were banned from playing on other sites.
Goals: These outline what we’re hoping to accomplish by asking you (and other employees) to agree to this policy.
- Limit ability of employees to exploit “inside information” such as the picks of top users, or the win rates of potential opponents.
- Reassure any concerned site users that employees aren’t exploiting inside info.
- Reduce chance of users questioning ability of employees to exploit inside info against them when they play on other sites.
You’ll notice that the goal of the policy isn’t to prevent or disallow employees from exploiting inside information, but simply to “limit” them.
Roughly: We know you have access to inside information, but try not to talk about it too loudly. And we trust that you won’t use it for evil.
- Never be among the top five players by volume on any one site (based on site leaderboards). Never be among the top ten overall on the RotoGrinders leaderboard. Top players frequently become targets for accusations by other users.
- Never account for more than 2% of entries in any tournament of more than 1,000 entries. Never account for more than 5% of entries in any tournament of more than 100 entries. Players who swamp big tournaments with entries frequently become targets of accusations.
- Don’t be the 2nd person into a head to head contest against the same opponent in more than one contest per day. This rule will greatly limit the ability to exploit information about user performance, and will also limit the likelihood of complaints from users.
- Never use information gained from viewing users’ lineups.
- Seek to avoid playing anyone whose lineups you saw for that time period.
This is insane! The first three bullet points literally tell employees not to win too much money on other sites, because it will arouse suspicion. There is nothing preventing employees from using lineup information they saw—indeed, that’s basically impossible once it enters their consciousness—they’re just told not to do it. They don’t even have to avoid playing against people whose lineups they saw, they just have to try.
A major payment processor has dropped FanDuel and DraftKings in the US. These companies process deposits and withdrawals from players accounts and without them no money can transfer between the websites and players.
A payment processing company that handles a significant number of transactions for the two dominant daily fantasy sports companies notified the operators this week that it would no longer handle their payments and in fact was leaving the industry altogether. It is perhaps the biggest blow yet to an industry that has been pummeled by legal challenges in recent months.
Vantiv Entertainment Solutions, the processing company, told its daily fantasy clients, which include FanDuel and DraftKings, that it would “suspend all processing for payment transactions” related to daily fantasy sports in the United States and its territories on Feb. 29.
The company cited the unfavorable opinions that have been issued by state attorneys general in recent months. Seven states, including Mississippi on Friday, have concluded that daily fantasy games were a form of gambling or were illegal under their current laws.
“As you are aware, an increasing number of state attorneys general have determined that daily fantasy sports (‘D.F.S.’) constitute illegal gambling,” Jonathan Ellman, chief transaction and marketing counsel at Vantiv, wrote in a letter obtained by The New York Times. “Although in recent weeks D.F.S. operators have raised numerous arguments to the contrary, to date those arguments have been unsuccessful and/or rejected.”
So papagates won again (NFL). Is this guy actually this smart or is he somehow cheating? He's rated real high in mlb and nfl so I don't really buy he's just smarter and luckier than everyone else.
