Moment/Player: Too many to choose from and too many awesome moments to pick a single event.

Stat: The fact that the Flames proved what a steaming pile of dung Advanced stats are. I've got a stat for you. Corsi is no good.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this:

The defining moment for me has to be the Schlemko shootout winner.

The Flames lose their top player and captain Mark Giordano in NJ, and a couple days later the team lays an absolute egg on Long Island.

In Philadelphia we learn that Gio is out for the season and yet the Flames find a way to win in OT in Johnny Gaudreau's homecoming. We're all thinking okay, maybe the Flames can still win a few games here or there without their captain.

Next game, the gruelling road trip continues in Boston and pushed to the shootout the Flames make the bold and improbable move of putting their new waiver wire defenceman into the driver's seat on a Kris Russell recommendation.

The rest is history, the team gets a huge shot of confidence and belief that it can still win without Gio. The Flames pick up points in the rest of its Eastern road trip and returns home to register two convincing wins against Anaheim and Toronto.

That confidence, refusal to lie down, and production from unlikely sources that was apparent after the Gio injury also recurred time and again in every third period comeback this season.

Also, I don't know if you consider it a statistic but the fact that at the trade deadline we shed Glencross and Baertschi but only acquired Schlemko (for nothing). We didn't make a trade splash like Winnipeg and really clawed our way into the playoffs without reinforcements.

Player: Player for me is Monahan. The kid isn't flashy, he's not the guy everyone talks about on the Flames and he's only in his second year. He was supposed to have a sophomore slump like so many others did/have in the past yet he puts up 31/31 playing on the first line. Others did great like Jiri and Johnny but centre is the most important position and he's doing awesome. He's the future captain of the Flames.

Moment: I can't remember the exact game but it was after we had had a bunch of come back wins and I was with a few buddies and we checked the score of the Flames game and the Flames were down going into the third period. I laughed and said "we have them right where we want them, down a couple going into the third" and one friend was making fun of the Flames and said they were garbage. I bet him the Flames would come back and win and they did. The biggest problem with that bet was that I drank so much (for free) after that I'm having a hard time remembering.

Statistic: Wins and losses. So many people started talking about advanced stats this year that it made my stomach churn. I still don't know or care to know how most of these stats are calculated. I got into an argument with someone about them and said that people were trying to turn hockey into baseball with all the useless stats. Hockey isn't baseball and the whole "moneyball" thing won't work in hockey because of one thing...heart. The only stat that really matters to me are wins and losses. There were lots of individual stats that were awesome but the thing I love about the Flames is that they would all rather see the team do well over one person doing well and that's the reason they have those great stats.

Player - Hudler, monahan, Gaudreau, Gio, Russell, Wideman, Brodie .. Oh so many. This is truely a team effort to achieve the playoffs

Moments - all the comeback wins, but that 0-4 to Ottawa is the one that stands out for me.

Stats- Hudler point totals. Great UFA signing that I was meh about when announced. And Russell's shot blocking record ... Guy is one of my favorite players. A warrior !!
