Russell and Wideman would probably matchup against the top lines.

Engelland with Brodie keeps everyone playing on their natural sides.

These are OK pairings. Without Gio it is basically the best combination we have.

Before the doomsday sayers come out, note that we have lost 28 times WITH Gio in the lineup, so he ain't some savior. He's just a really, really, really good D-man & leader.

Go Flames.

I feel like the Flames are really going to band together here with Gio out, and pull out a big win tonight. The fear is if he's out more than one or two games, they can only hold their own for so long, it's crazy how much Gio means to this team.

Also I like the idea of keeping Wideman and Russell together, Brodie will make up for Engelland's mistakes, only thing that this lineup hinders is Brodie won't be able to jump in the play as liberally as he has so far this season.

It makes sense to me. When you lose your top 25-30 min guy, especially on the road where you can't control the match-ups very well, spreading the love around could be the best option. Trying to get Russell and Brodie out against Tavares is great in theory, but when he ends up out against Spoon and Engellend, it could be bad news. Brodie has the speed to cover up for Engelland, while also (hopefully) keeping his offensive drives.

this is bad! I really hope that Wideman and Russell can have a standout game, I feel they will be playing a lot tonight. We could likely see Brodie getting double shifted on different pairings since he is a machine and can skate so well. He will be in god mode tonight.

Should be interesting.

I disagree, I'd want our next best defenseman behind Gio to play with Engelland so we can balance out our defense a bit. It's not much of a demotion to Brodie to move down a pairing, but Russell and Wideman can log in the top pairing minutes since they already have the chemistry.

I would also be for the notion of splitting our top 4 of Brodie, Russell and Wideman on different pairings with Wotherspoon/Potter, Diaz, and Engelland. That's if we really wanted to balance out our defense. I'd like to keep Russell and Wideman together though.

Sounds like Wotherspoon is most likely out. No 7 d.

Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Would expect 6 D in the lineup for the #Flames. Wotherspoon off the ice well after teammates. Potter likely in for his first game.

You don't split up the Wideman-Russel pairing. Instead you play that pairing 30 minutes tonight.

Brodie is second pairing with whomever they promote. My guess is it's Engellend who has been much better lately.

The third pairing may only get 7 or 8 minutes of sheltered icetime.

Roger Millions @RogMillions
#Flames Bob Hartley just told me he is asking all players to be prepared to play. In his mind no player is ruled out.

We need to start moving some of our Centre prospects out for young D. Our Backend looks putrid with out Gio. Jank, Granlund, Reinhart.

Anyone think that's because Hartley knows there are a number of players in play on the trade market who may be moved at any point?

I suspect the blue line will be Burkie's and Treliving's #1 priority at the draft this year for this very reason.

Diaz stepped it up when given PP time. Maybe he can take another step.

The only one travelling with the team that I've heard that is on the block is Glencross. I've heard Stajan and Raymond's name but they are still in Calgary.

I doubt anyone will be traded before the game tonight considering this will be our last game until after the trade deadline. Maybe right after the game i could see one happening

So far, my summary on Engelland's play is: 2.9M dollar ice the puck man.

nhl.com says Engelland is playing on the top pairing with Brodie?!?!

That's just a terrible idea.

#Flames pairings --
Russell/Wideman ...
Brodie/Engelland ...
Diaz/Potter

Randy Sportak @SUNRandySportak
#Flames had Potter with Diaz one pairing, Russell with Wideman on another and Brodie with Engelland. Unless they play 7 D, Wotherspoon out
Yup
