Ya,
I think it is a good back up plan to have another body that has NHL experience. I would like to see Wotherspoon to get in before Potter. But I have a feeling this won't happen, Potter will likely get in to the game tonight.
It would be great to see Wotherspoon get in and maybe steal a spot.
So for tonight we are looking at this sort of setup?
Russell - Brodie
Wideman - Diaz
Potter/Wotherspoon - Engelland
Maybe we see a trade today with a team that is in close proximity of the Flames right now so they can get into the game tonight.
Should be an interesting day.

^^^ Potter gives us that why trade another pick for essentially the same thing.
Gio - Injured
Brodie
Russell
Wideman
Smid - Injured
Dias
Engelland
Wotherspoon
Potter
Cundari
We have 10 guys already, no sense in giving away any type of asset even a late pick for a guy like Allen who has to learn our system on top pf being old and slow. Pass!

Picking up Allen would be a waste.
Allen is absolutely atrocious. He was god-awful when he played with the Ducks & Habs earlier this year.
He really cannot play hockey anymore at even a sub-mediocre NHL level. He's one of the few D-men around the NHL that's legitimately worse at playing hockey than Deryk Engelland & Ladi Smid, and even in his best days he wasn't good. Now he's absolute crap.
Do not want. Allen is finished.

He went to the ECHL because he was struggling and could play more against lesser competition. And he did do well in the ECHL, but doing well in the ECHL does not mean we should call him up to the NHL.

Good god no! Diaz as stepped up and done an admirable job to go along with the fact that he has played 40 games this year. Allen has been with two clubs this year, only played 24 games and has been demoted to the affiliate both times. Diaz should be netting us a 4th or 5th if we are dealing him which I think would be a mistake.

Just watch... this will all be a shell game being played by the Flames. Flames leak rumors that we are interested in other player, indirectly informing other teams that they are willing to go another direction if their asking price for a player the Flames want doesn't come down, all the while the Flames are secretly hoping to land the dman they have been targetting for quite a while... OR if the price does not come down, acquire Allen for next to nothing as a temporary bandaid on the club until Gio returns.
I know its just a wild crazy idea... but you never know...

What are we, Friedmans current toy of choice, all of his rumours seem to be about the flames at the moment, most of which make absolutely no sense.

Black eye for Flames management if they trade any pick for Allen.

Exactly this.
A pick has to be coming with Allen as a favor for taking his salary on as MTL may need to create room for another move as they are close to the cap. Can't see Treliving sending anything of value to MTL, he was on the FAN this am and saying how important picks are and their value tends to increase closer to the draft. And I think he shoots pretty straight. Lots of hand wringing over this, believe if we do this we get way more than we will give.

If this happens, Will anyones opinion on Treliving change from on the fence to No Good tm in terms of trades? Hes the one that brought in basically every dead weight player on this team that we want to get rid of. I'm getting a little worried about him now.

I understand these reporters and analysts need to make paper somehow, but man am I ever sick of rumors. Announce the GD trade when it GD happens for Pete's sake.
I will never forgive Aaron Ward for breaking the Iggy news incorrectly. (Although he did score twice against Oil in gm 7 in 2006).

Not necessarily so. What if it's something like Allen and a 4th for a 6th? I'm down for something like that.

What's the rush? Even if Gio is out for the rest of the season and the Flames don't get into the playoffs, the Flames should stay with the rebuild plan regardless. There's really no real panic to do a quick patch and go nowhere.

Couldn't agree more. If treliving makes a move like this he really undermines his credibility as a GM. Engelland was already a pretty glaring mistake, he needs to demonstrate that he's learned from that and not make a worse one. Better to stand pat than to make it clear to the NHL world that you're a rube.

Wow....the reactions in this thread are epic.
They could be thinking of Allen to fill Wotherspoon's spot in the A. Regardless it would likely be a low impact move that won't matter at all let alone show badly on the Flames management.
