He's apparently had an attitude change and is more upbeat after getting down on himself. I think that's a huge part of the resurgence.

Personally I love seeing it. Every player develops at a different pace, and some players take longer than others to develop. The Flames are not in a position where they need prospects to be jumping in and contributing right away, sure its great when they do, but I don't see the Flames winning a cup this year, so whats the difference if Sven takes another year or two to develop. Have him learn, get stronger physically and mentally, and eventually become an NHL player. The Red Wings are the godfathers of not rushing players, letting them mature in farm teams, and that formula really serves them well.

If Baertschi forces himself back into the lineup this season, that's a bonus as far as I'm concerned. Next camp is make or break time.

I say turning the corner. 12 games isn't a big sample, but he's played well over 100 pro games in total so I think he knows what's required, just hasn't put it together consistently before.

Beyond that I've never understood the fear of multi topics, and I'd rather have a topic that covers individual issues for each player or broader topic, and not one 100 page Baertschi topic that covers everything from the day he was born until the day he dies. My site has a feature where old topics go to the second page when they're not responded to, tends to sort this issue out.

What a nifty little feature!!!1eleven
I'm really hoping this doesn't encourage them to try and find a spot for him on the NHL roster quite yet, as he's stumbled enough so far... but I'm really hoping to see there's still a groove for him to get in.
I already covered this in the mega thread on the 98th page halfway down though... so a bit of a waste here.

Dion is the only 1st rounder going back to 1984 (Gary Roberts) that has actually gone on to have a lucrative career, and the Flames gave him away for nothing.
It's frustrating as a fan to see it happening again to a player many thought was a sure thing after ripping up the WHL and scoring 3 in 5 during the emergency callup.
So yes, it's something that should, and is, receiving a fair bit of attention. Those picks need to count because a franchise that continually mishandles and blows their most important picks is not going to find success, even if the late-round drafting yields the odd gem.

Well Cory Stillman may not have been flashy but 700 points in 1000 career games and two Stanley cups is a pretty lucrative career. Your point is pretty valid though, 3 guys in 30 years is not exactly a stellar drafting record.
As for Sven I really think when he played on a line with Byron and Jooris a couple weeks before he got sent down he really got a feel for what is going to be required to be successful on this team. It may not have translated as well to his last few games but it seems like something sunk in and it is working on the farm. Turning the corner for sure, but I think the rest of the season down there with the odd few game call up for a reward might be best.

Glad to see he's playing well and has a more upbeat attitude.
However, I don't want to see him called up too quickly. Too many bumps in the road already for him. He needs to be over-ripened and then brought up when he's really ready. Because another false start will be tough on him and insufferable among the fanbase. Leave him be for a while.

I'm going way out on a limb here,
But I think the next time Baertschi comes up while he is rolling he established himself. I now expect him to be inconsistent and bounce between the 2nd & 3rd line most his career. But I think he can be effective for a team that has other players they can regularly depend on.

Best Part of the post. should have been said in caps lock while pounding your fist on the table.
For the complainers, sorry for posting twice in a row on the same thread, one of which was off topic.

I want to see him exceed a point per game down there. And over a larger sample size. Then I'll start to change my mind on him.
Yeah sounds like harsh standards, but he's had a couple years of pro now and should be able to rack up points down there with his skill set, especially given his history of racking up the offence. He was a PPG guy in his first bunch of games in the A, he should be able to surpass that clip now and be a leader for the club.
I hate premature conclusion-drawing threads like this based on 12 games. It's 12 freaking games, and he wasn't exactly wowing us when he was up here a few weeks ago (yes I am aware he was flanked by goons on limited ice time). But let's move along for now, please. Nothing to see here, yet.
