He could be sent to the AHL but he'd have to clear waivers again, and St Louis would have first refusal.

If someone claims him then they would not be allowed to trade him for the remainer of the season.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Heatley, Paarjarvi-Svensson, Pinizzotto & Hackett clear waivers.

Surprised both Paarjarvi and Hackett cleared.

I though Hackett was a pretty good up and coming goalie, but maybe most organizations have a couple guys like him (Flames with Ortio and Gillies).

Not too surprising when you factor in the fact that once claimed on waivers they can't be sent down anymore. Who wants Hackett to be guaranteed at least a back up role? Even Edmonton with the worst goaltending in the league would be foolish to do that. Is pajaarvi guaranteed to be a better option on a line for some other team?

Not sure. Haven't seen enough of Paarjarvi since his trade to STL to really judge whether or not another team could use him.

One word. Depth. Minny and Philly had injuries and has to deploy g that was substandard.

Still doesn't explain why they would give a roster spot to a goalie that hasn't played a game (exhibition or real) in 8 months.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see another contract swap instead though.

As sureLoss says, that roster spot is guaranteed. It's foolish asset management to have depth if your depth is blocking better players from entering the lineup

Still a great trade for Saint Louis.

You can waive him again if he's a plug. Someone like Dallas has Anders Lindback as a back-up who never plays and is completely terrible, would have considered it. If something happens to Lehtonen, you could waive Hackett and see if he's claimed by someone.

No one would claim Lindback if you waived him.

And to not much surprise, the Perron trade talk in the media after his comments, has been swept under the rug by the Edmonton media and the others that Lowe uses to get his messages out to.

Clearly the Oilers have had zero takers/acceptors for whatever outlandish return they're asking for, yet that player, who expressed that attitude for all to hear, still sits in that room with everyone else.

I know. Poor basterd. I bet he thought he was going to get traded for sure!

Was not aware of the injury.

I guess it's a move where you would be looking past this year. Carry 3 G in order to have a good goalie prospect (which Philly really needs) and have him replace emery in the off season. Carry 13 f and 7 d to make it work (or if it comes to it waive emery who would probably pass through waivers). But didn't happen so a moot point.

You are indeed correct. That was my screwup.
