Why are people talking about Colborne like he's a vet... He's the same age as Jooris and this is pretty much his second season? They get one season to show what they've got and they're done?

I know you like Granlund. I do too. 10X better? Maybe slightly better. Different players. IMHO Ferland will be the better of the two in the end.

This is a rebuild season. Development is key, results are gravy.

What's better for Ferland, playing 4th line minutes in the NHL, or being one of the top players in Adirondack? That's what matters the most. He's had a taste of the NHL now, which is good, but Ferland will IMO be much better off in Adirondack.

I was very impressed with him. They should have sent Grandlund down instead.
I thought that until Granlund's last game (in Toronto). He was so key in that third period push, a throw back to his first dozen games up with Calgary.

He's next on the list though.

I suppose its possible but I don't see any evidence that would lead me to that conclusion. Ferland has one point for crying out loud

Adirondack is pretty crowded too. Setoguchi, Baertschi, Knight, Hanowski, Reinhart, and the guys on AHL contracts as well who play in the top 6.

At the risk of summoning up Where R U Chris Sullivan, I've got to say Granlund is a long way ahead of where Backlund was at the same point of his NHL career and basically has replaced him in the lineup this season.

I like Ferland and I can see him playing a big role in the future but I really don't understand why Granlund isn't more appreciated here. I'm sure it wasn't tough for Hartley to keep Granlund up over Ferland. He has played a way bigger role on the team, he has more skill and plays a far more complete game. And he scores points in the NHL.

That's the worry: that we will be out of a playoff spot by the time the regulars get back up to speed. Given that they were streaking before going down with injury, it's also possible that Raymond and Colborne might produce at a less stellar rate as we move forward.

At the risk of answering for others I think you misunderstand the comments about Granlund. Everyone is happy with him, everyone acknowledges he has produced and almost no one said Ferland should stay over him. There's a contingent who thinks Ferland has shown some big league game and that power forward prospects on this team are rarer than what Granlund projects to be.

If you'd rather have Ferland than Granlund, you should also be loving Bollig's play.
Wow Ferland only had one assist? That really surprises me. He was certainly more noticeable than that stat line suggests. I'm sure he'll be back up soon so good move for now. Nice to see the team getting healthy.

Ferland is going to be good. He's pretty much what I've always hoped Greg Nemisz would develop into.

There are a fair number of posters over a fair number of threads who have given the opinion that Granlund should go down before Ferland and that Ferland is more valuable to the club right now. Granlund has also consistently been valued under other prospects right up to the present. Many suggest he should be moved to make way for others. I think he's a solid pro at 21 with a complete game and a very useful skillset and a much more valuable asset than people on this Board are giving him credit for. I think he's a solid 2/3 centre in this league for a long long time.

The guys in bold don't really matter.

Also, you forgot Poirier

Besides, Ferland is a top 9 forward in points in Adirondack, and top 6 in goals, with less than half the games than other guys on that list. He should have no trouble fitting in.

Its not like Ferland is some giant either. He's pretty much a normal sized NHL guy.

There were probably 3 people who suggested Granlund be sent down over Ferland, and one who said it after Ferland was sent down. How has Granlund been valued "under" other prospects? I think he's placed where he is - behind Johnny and Jooris and ahead of Ferland.

as for trading - you either keep good prospects long term or trade them if you have an oversupply at a position, and a need in another. Posters who think we will get a mid-level defenceman for a Hanowski or Knight are kidding themselves. So some have said Granlund might be a good bargaining piece, since we have Monahan, Colborne, Backlund and Jooris at centre, and Bennett on the way. Right now Granlund is played at left, and has slipped from the 2nd to the third line. So he is a guy mentioned in trade speculation, not because he's bad, but because he's someone you could see another team wanting.

Meh, maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but Granlund is more versatile IMO. Ferland looks like he could be an awesome power forward. Just not quite there yet.

Agreed - lots of Chicken Littles running around in the last couple days.

Hell, if we miss the POs this year I still say we've had entertaining hockey, good looking rookies and sophomores.

IMO we were never going to be in the running for last place, or even 2nd or 3rd last, with a good shot at McDavid. So let's have wins, and a good time watching the team.

Is anyone else getting sick of the nyquist / Detroit references for players "seasoning" in the minors?
