In Sinclair's case, she carried the team on her back and earned the team a medal not many thought they could get (and perhaps not even the one they deserved).

Maybe. I can see the athlete vs team thing but Bouchard entered the year ranked 30th in the world and made 3 grand slam semifinals. I do think the year she had after Wimbledon hurt her.
